Traditional festivals are very important in the national cultural heritage;they typically exhibit the national spirit,public beliefs,aesthetic interests,ethical relations and customs.As an important part of traditional culture,traditional festivals contribute a lot to the education of teenagers.It is not only reflected on adolescents’ideological and moral cultivation,but also reflected in the formation of students’multicultural perspective,their problem-solving skills and the cultivation of innovative thinking,etc.Social studies is the comprehensive subject which is aimed at promoting students’ social competence.It also includes traditional culture education.Textbooks play an important role in traditional festivals education,because they are responsible for spreading knowledge.Social studies textbooks in Mainland have been already focused on the traditional culture education,and introduced a lot about traditional festivals,but there are some areas need to be improved,like the content of festivals,the presentation mode and the learning methods.The paper is made up of five parts which includes an introduction and four chapters.The introduction includes two parts.The first part introduces study reasons,purposes,content,significance and methods.The second part summarizes the research status which contains the education value of traditional festivals,the curriculum and teaching materials,the textbooks analysis.The first chapter combs the knowledge of traditional festivals which includes the culture connotation,evolution and the educational value.It expounds the substance and spirit culture connotation of the traditional festivals,combs the evolution process of traditional festivals,and explains the educational value of traditional festivals.The second chapter makes a quantitative comparison of the traditional festival between Taiwan and Mainland’s social studies textbooks.It contains five aspects:the main traditional festivals’ text,the secondary traditional festival’s text,the distribution of traditional festival content in each grade,the number of minority’s traditional festivals.According to the comparison results,the textbooks’ traditional festivals knowledge should be well arranged and the minority traditional festivals should be introduced a lot.Third chapter makes a comparison in "Spring Festival" unit,which includes three aspects:the national spirit education,multicultural education and social life education.it is concluded that the traditional festivals content should be reasonable designed,the textbook should focus on the basic knowledge of traditional festivals,the traditional festivals content should base on the real life,the textbook should pay attention to develop students’ problem-solving ability.The fourth chapter,according to the results of comparison,the paper gives some suggestions about traditional festivals education.And design a teaching material case of Dragon Boat Festival.
