| Purpose: The special work nature of the police determines that it is easy to be in a high state of stress. The police are not only a high-risk group of chronic stress, but also easily exposed to various acute stressors, resulting in acute stress response.Researches have shown that mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training are two simple and easy stress intervention methods, which have been proven to regulate individual stress responses to a certain extent. There are many previous researches on police stress intervention, but there are few empirical researches on mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training intervention on police stress. At the same time,as two different intervention methods, the intervention effects of mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training on acute and chronic stress may also be different. The purpose of this research is to investigate the intervention effects of mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training on police stress, aiming at two stress states that are prone to occur in police groups.Method: Study 1 used a two-factor mixed experimental design of 2(group: mindfulness training group, abdominal breathing training group)×2(time: baseline period,post-training).The participants were 30 police officers in Y County who were in a state of chronic stress(the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale score ≥43 points),randomly divided into 2 groups, and carried out mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training for 7 consecutive days.Five indicators, namely, the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale(CPSS)score, high frequency band power(HF),high frequency low frequency ratio(LF/HF),standard deviation the mean R–R interval(SDNN),and root mean square(RMSSD)of adjacent RR interval difference, were selected to verify the effectiveness of mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training on police chronic stress intervention,as well as the difference of the intervention effects of the two training methods.Study 2 used a two-factor mixed experimental design of 3(group: mindfulness training group, abdominal breathing group, blank control group)×3(time: baseline period, stress period, dry expectation). The participants were 45 police officers in Y County who were in a normal state(the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale score <43 points),and were randomly divided into 3 groups, namely mindfulness training group, abdominal breathing group and blank control group.100 consecutive mental arithmetic questions were used as the stressors to induce the subject’s acute stress response.Subsequently, the experimental group underwent a single 15-minute mindfulness training or abdominal breathing training, and the control group underwent a 15-minute sit-down rest.Six indicators, namely, the State Anxiety Inventory(S-AI)score,high frequency band power(HF),the high-frequency low-frequency ratio(LF/HF),the standard deviation of the mean R–R interval(SDNN),the root mean square(RMSSD)of the adjacent RR interval difference, and the mean heart rate(HR)were selected to verify the effectiveness of mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training on police acute stress intervention, and the difference of intervention effect between the two training methods.Outcome: The results of study 1 showed that compared with the baseline period, the CPSS score and LF/HF after the training of the mindfulness training group decreased significantly, and the HF,RMSSD and SDNN increased significantly. The CPSS score and LF/HF decreased significantly after the abdominal breathing group training, the RMSSD and SDNN increased significantly, and the HF increased, but not significantly. In the inter-group comparison after training,it was found that the LF/HF after the mindfulness training group was significantly lower than that in the abdominal breathing training group, and the SDNN was significantly higher than that in the abdominal breathing training group. The results of study 2 found that the S-AI scores,HR,and LF/HF of the three groups were significantly higher than in the baseline period during the stress period, while HF,SDNN,and RMSSD were significantly lower than those in the baseline period. In dry expectation,HF,SDNN,and RMSSD in the mindfulness training group increased significantly compared with the stress period,S-AI scores and LF/HF decreased significantly, and HR decreased but not significantly.HF,SDNN,and RMSSD in the abdominal respiratory training group increased significantly compared with the stress period, and the S-AI score,LF/HF,and HR decreased significantly. The S-AI score of the blank control group decreased significantly, and there was no significant change in other indicators. In the inter-group comparison of dry expectations,it was found that HF,SDNN,and RMSSD in the abdominal respiratory training group and mindfulness training group were significantly higher than those in the blank control group, and LF/HF and HR were significantly lower than those in the blank control group. The LF/HF and HR of the abdominal breathing training group were significantly lower than those in the mindfulness training group. Conclusion: 1.Both mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training can effectively interfere with the chronic stress state of the police.2.The mindfulness training has a better effect on the intervention of police chronic stress.3.Both mindfulness training and abdominal breathing training can effectively intervene in the acute stress state of the police.4.The abdominal breathing training has a better intervention effect on the acute stress of the police. |
