Cantonese immigrants constitute one of the main forces of the immigrant population in Shanghai,and have a deep influence in Shanghai,and has founded a number of local organizations,of which the strongest representative is The Kwang Shao Association.In 1918,under the intensification of internal contradictions,The Kwang Shao Association carried out a reform,which ended with the withdrawal of the conservatives and the gradual dominance of the reformers in the public affairs.The reformers abandoned the elitist stance of the old guild hall and shifted the focus of their work to serve the broad masses of ordinary fellow citizens.The Kwang Shao Weekly was also established the following year,in March 1919.The Kwang Shao Weekly,formerly known as The Lingnan Weekly,is countrymen’s issue of the five provinces in the Yangtze river basin.It’s main editors were Luo Kui,Zhou Xisan and Zhao Weimin.The establishment of it provides a media platform for Cantonese citizens to transmit the news of their hometown,to contact their fellow citizens and to enlighten them.The main body of this paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter,as the background,firstly introduces the immigration characteristics and geographical characteristics of Shanghai society,and investigates the push and pull of the Cantonese immigrants to Shanghai,as well as the situation of the establishment of local associations by the Cantonese immigrants in Shanghai.Secondly,it introduces the general development of Shanghai newspaper industry in modern times and the basic situation of the publications of the townships organized by the townships traveling in Shanghai.Finally,from the development process,organization and management and the reality of the contradiction,explained under the change of the old and new society of The Kwang Shao Association.This paper summarizes the general situation of the newspaper running of Guangdong people from the aspects of the tradition of running the newspaper,the editorial staff,the purpose of running the newspaper,and the advertisement distribution.The second chapter discusses The Kwang Shao Weekly and the urban integration of immigrants from the text.From The Kwang Shao Weekly education advocacy of of all kinds of immigration,such as school education,women’s education and social education,labor education and advocacy of vernacular Chinese and mandarin,to old behaviors such as early marriage and polygamy criticism,for the spread of urban health and healthy living ideas,to maintain multiple aspects,such as for the interests of the countrymen,introduced how to use weekly newspaper press activities help Guangdong and Zhaoqing immigrants better in the city of Shanghai.The third chapter examines the influence of The Kwang Shao Weekly Weekly on the identity of The Kwang Shao immigrant groups.It can be seen that The Kwang Shao Weekly,as an open media platform,publicly reports the daily affairs of the Kwang Shao Association,which ensures the right to know and stimulates the enthusiasm and participation of the Kwang Shao Association through an open and transparent information environment.Through the criticism of the old customs in hometown,it creates a common atmosphere of public opinion,and actively encourages fellow townsfolk to help each other in the disaster to maintain the feelings of fellow townsfolk.Through the dissemination of Cantonese culture,such as Cantonese opera,Cantonese songs and Cantonese ballads,the immigrants from Kwang Shao improved their cultural identity.The fourth chapter examines the influence of The Kwang Shao Weekly on the nation-state consciousness of the Kwang Shao immigrants from a more macroscopic perspective.The Kwang Shao Weekly advocated domestic goods and industrial salvation,and combined consumerism with patriotism,greatly popularizing national consciousness in the same countryside.In order to strengthen the country to protect the seeds of the speech as the keynote,vigorously promote the national arts and sports;The tradition of "business is business" became the voice of progressive groups.It promoted the National Union of Trade Workers,called for workers’ rights,and emphasized the rehabilitation and education of workers.Also in the national congress strategy of the establishment of the drum and call,do enough to mobilize public opinion.Finally,the conclusion of the article is summarized.It is affirmed that the newspaper,as a media platform,plays a positive and positive role in the interaction and mutual construction among the city,the newspaper and the immigrants.
