Research On The Development Trend And Countermeasures Of Geo-setting In Mekong River Basin Countries

The Mekong River Basin is a special and complex problem area,which is not only a complex area integrating resources,politics,economy,humanities,religion,and ethnic groups,but also a typical area of cross-basin cooperation in China.In recent years,due to China’s inaccurate grasp and prediction of the changes in the geopolitical environment of the countries in the Mekong River Basin,has caused a series of problems.For example,the Myitsone power station in Myanmar was stranded,the Chinese-funded rubber plantation in Laos was discredited by the international community,Chinese-funded enterprises in Vietnam were smashed and looted,and anti-Chinese campaigns continued,and the dredging of the Mekong River channel between China,Laos and Thailand was strongly opposed in Thailand.In response to these problems and the geopolitical dilemmas faced by the high-quality development of the “Belt and Road” initiative,it is imperative to sort out the development trend of the geopolitical environment of the countries in the Mekong River Basin and then propose precise countermeasures.Firstly,it introduces the geographical situation of the research area in detail from the three aspects of geographical location,Geo-setting and social economy and culture,and expounds the theoretical basis highly related to the research.On this basis,this paper constructs the thinking and framework of analyzing the geopolitical environment of the countries in the Mekong River Basin,combs the historical evolution of the geopolitical environment in the basin,and deeply analyzes the current Geo-setting,inter-regional Geo-relations,external Geo-structure and Geo-body.Secondly,it extracts the changing trend of geopolitical environment in the the countries in the Mekong River Basin.Finally,some countermeasures and suggestions are put forward.The results show:(1)The level of Geo-setting within the region.Currently,traditional security in the Mekong River Basin still exists,non-traditional security issues are prominent,and security issues tend to be fragmented.At the same time,the prospects for political system reform in countries such as Myanmar and Thailand are confusing;(2)At the level of inter-regional geopolitical relations.Due to the social separation of multi-ethnic and multi-religious,the continuous conflict between ethnic armed forces and government,and the economic development level dominated by traditional agriculture,the geographical environment of some countries in the region is extremely fragile,and the external geographical dependence is increasing,and the dependence sources of geopolitics,Geo-military,Geo-economy and Geo-culture present a trend of separation;(3)the level of regional and foreign border pattern.With the deepening of America’s Indo-Pacific strategy,the advancement of India’s eastward policy,the southward shift of Japan’s strategic center of gravity and Russia’s recent activities in Southeast Asia,the Mekong River Basin has become a strategic intersection of multiple forces,the geographical structure is developing towards multipolarization,and the international order is becoming increasingly unstable.At the same time,the international non-governmental organizations in the basin are highly gathered,and the geopolitical activities are becoming more and more frequent.In view of the new development trend of various elements in the geopolitical environment of the countries in the Mekong River Basin,the countries in the basin should work together to achieve the following goals in the future:(1)To build a Geo-destiny community of countries in Lancang-Mekong River Basin;(2)Build an intensive platform for collaborative governance of non-traditional security issues;(3)Blocking the trend of internationalization of problems in the basin;(4)Seeking a wise way to promote the political system reform in the basin;(5)Dynamic monitoring of the activities of non-governmental organizations(NGOs)in the basin.This paper constructs an analytical scheme of the geopolitical environment of Mekong River Basin,and carries out dynamic analysis of the geopolitical environment system of Mekong River Basin countries,so as to conciliate its changing trend and put forward targeted countermeasures.This paper constructs an analytical scheme of the geopolitical environment of Mekong River Basin,and carries out dynamic analysis of the geopolitical environment system of Mekong River Basin countries,so as to conciliate its changing trend and put forward targeted countermeasures.It can provide the basis and policy suggestions for the country,relevant departments and enterprises to evaluate the investment Geo-risk,and enhance the ability of leading the governance of surrounding areas in China.
