Public diplomacy is an important part of country’s foreign strategy,which is an effective tool for introducing national foreign policy,building national image,and realizing national interests.As the world hegemony since the end of World War II,American public diplomacy is one of the hot topics in academic research at home and abroad,but few academic researches on evolution and reasons of evolution of American public diplomacy Since the end of the World War II,how has American Public Diplomacy evolved? What has motivated? This article will focus on it.Since the end of the World War II,American Public Diplomacy has experienced obvious prosperous,declined and revived stage.During the Cold War,against to the socialist camp led by the Soviet Union,which is under the guidance of the “Containment”strategy,America has established numerous public diplomatic institutions and carried out various forms of public diplomacy activities,which is prosperity stage of American public diplomacy coming.However,with the upheaval of the Soviet Union and the East and the end of the Cold War,America has reassessed the role of public diplomacy and believed that the “cold war mission” of American Public Diplomacy has been achieved.The declined stage is coming.When the 9·11 incident broke out,America has reassessed the role of public diplomacy and considered its’ public diplomacy still plays an important role in spreading American values,shaping the good image of American overseas,and safeguarding and achieving national interests.Especially,it helped the America win the war against Terrorism.As a result,American Public Diplomacy shew a “revival” trend.Reviewing the evolution of American Public Diplomacy’s prosperity decay and revival after World War II,it is not difficult to find that the rise and fall of American Public Diplomacy is related to American government’s perception of the role of public diplomacy,the deep roots are affected by international pressure,national strategy and American overseas image.Therefore,this article conclude that the evolution of American Public Diplomacy from prosperity decline to revival after World War II is closely related to American government’s perception of international pressure,the transformation of American national strategy and the quality of the American overseas image. |
