Research On U.S. Military Intelligence Support In Joint Operations

The US military maintains that “intelligence is the most important among all factors in joint operations”.Being one of the six major functions of joint operations,intelligence applies to all operational activities,together with comand and control.As an important component to the overall operational system of the US military,intelligence support also attaches great importance to the organic combination of various support forces,measures and actions,“thus making it an overall joint force which surpasses any single organization,and providing commanders with the most accurate and timely intelligence”.The US JP-3 points out that “the nature of modern warfare demands the implementation of overall operation”,which entails the use of all means of the national forces to conduct and win warfare so as to achieve the national strategic objectives.This involves not only the integration of intelligence forces,but also the grand integrations of various kinds of intelligence in aspects such as politics,economy,diplomacy,culture and religion etc.so as to unify the intelligence support work in joint operations.Meanwhile,our armed forces are making all efforts to build the operational chain of command-the Central Military Commission,the theater commands and the troops.This thesis gives indepth analysis into the mature working procedures of the US military joint intelligence support,explores its features in recent local wars,takes the successful parctices and experiences of the US military as reference,and offers conducive suggestions to the intelligence support of our armed forces,against the backdrop of the expanding military reform with Chinese characteristics in the field of reconnaissance intelligence,the all-round construction of joint operational intelligence and informationization of reconnaissance measures,and the promotion of the integrated intellegence support.
