Abstract/Summary:
English writing is the process of English learners’ language output,which has higher requirements for English learners’ ability to apply their English and can reflect students’ language learning ability and thinking capacity.Although the new curriculum standards of high school English(2020)emphasize English writing skills by making students understand the importance of comprehensive language usage.However,writing performance has been the weakest link of English classes in high school.The teaching process of English classes does not put enough emphasis on the study of Literature however,English learners’ writing avoidance phenomenon has been shown to greatly influence the learners to improve their writing.This study adopts quantitative and qualitative research methods,and 156 students from3 classes in grade three of Mudanjiang No.3 Senior High School in Heilongjiang Province are taken as the research subjects.Try to solve the following three research problems.(1)What is the current situation of avoidance in Senior high school students’ English writing?(2)In what aspects is the avoidance reflected in the English writing of senior high school students?(3)What are the reasons for the avoidance in senior high school students’ English writing?Through analysis,this paper draws the following three conclusions:(1)Through the analysis of videos and interviews,it can be found that students’ hesitation in writing exists avoidance.The evidence is present in the mid-term English compositions collected by the author in that the words and sentences the students used in the writing process are relatively simple,and they seldom use advanced words and synonyms.(2)According to the results of text analysis,questionnaire surveys,and interviews,it was found that avoidance in English writing of senior high school students is mainly reflected in vocabulary,grammar and discourse.(3)The reasons of avoidance in senior high school students’ English writing are the lack of language knowledge and input,the influence of mother tongue,the negative influence of non-intelligence factors,and the negative influence of traditional scoring mechanism.The purpose of this study is to investigate the specific manifestations and causes of avoidance in English writing of senior high school students,and to provide some enlightenment for students to deal with avoidance correctly.The goal is to help senior high school students pay greater attention to English writing and improve their English writing ability.The results of this study have some guiding significance for the teaching of English writing in senior high schools.Teachers should help students to correctly understand the avoidance and improve their writing skills.
