Vocabulary is one of the important tools for us to express our thoughts.Language learning basically starts from learning vocabulary,so vocabulary learning is an indispensable part of language learning.In English vocabulary teaching,vocabulary presentation plays an indispensable role.An effective vocabulary presentation can not only attract students’ interest and attention,but also improve students’ enthusiasm for vocabulary learning and interact actively with each other so that students can master vocabulary quickly and efficiently and use it flexibly.Based on the constructivist learning theory and the language input hypothesis in second language acquisition,this paper took 260 students and 5 English teachers from No.1 Senior Middle School in M city as the research objects.This paper explored the frequently-used vocabulary presentation mode in English vocabulary teaching in senior high school,the problems existing in the application of different vocabulary presentation methods in English vocabulary teaching,and the causes of the problems by means of questionnaires,classroom observation and interviews.The author used students’ questionnaires and teachers’ interviews to survey the most frequently-used vocabulary presentation mode,through classroom observation and students’ questionnaires to explore the existing problems in the application of different vocabulary presentation modes,and finally through interviews of student and teacher to explore the causes of the problems.After four months of investigation and research,the research results are as follows:Firstly,in senior high school on English vocabulary teaching,the most frequently-used vocabulary presentation mode was the description presentation mode,and the least used presentation mode is the game presentation mode.The students’ preferable presentation modes were perception presentation and game presentation mode.Secondly,teachers used the description presentation mode very frequently while used the perception presentation mode and games presentation modes.Under the description vocabulary presentation modes,the classroom atmosphere was very boring and the students’ reaction was not active;neither students can they concentrate on the entire vocabulary teaching process,nor do respond positively to the entire vocabulary teaching process.Besides,most students didn’t like the vocabulary presenting modes used by the teachers.Thirdly,teachers had varying degrees of understanding of vocabulary teaching objectives,but due to heavy vocabulary teaching tasks they cannot effectively and fully apply multiple presentation modes.Moreover,students lost interest in word learning under the teacher’s single vocabulary presentation.The research provided some references for the correct use of vocabulary presentation modes,so that teachers can comprehensively use different vocabulary presentation modes in English vocabulary teaching to better promote vocabulary teaching and improve the efficiency of students’ vocabulary learning.
