| Our country lags relatively late behind the western world in basic education,especially in English listening.The teaching concept is,to some extent,obsolete and stereotype with no effective and novel teaching method.Moreover,the traditional listening teaching mode is filled with mechanical listening practice,which is not only monotonous but boring.Directly indoctrinating or spoon-fed listening teaching method tends to make students lose interest,resulting in poor listening performance in various types of tests.Therefore,this thesis aims to explore an effective way to improve students’ English listening level.A finding from the author is that a lack of relative and necessary background knowledge has negative impact on listening comprehension.After researching and sorting out a large number of relevant literature on listening teaching at home and abroad,the author finds that schema theory can appropriately solve the problem of lack of background knowledge.In this thesis,the author proposes to apply schema theory to resolving to those problems and at the same time,creates an innovative way the utilize schema into listening teaching.This thesis puts forward three research questions:1.What influence does schemata background knowledge have on students ’ listening comprehension ability? 2.After the experiment is conducted,how does the students ’ emotional attitude change towards the application of the schema theory? 3.How does the new method influence students’ strategies during listening? Firstly,the author collects the statistics of questionnaire and test experiments,explores the students’ emotional attitude in the form of questionnaire,uses the pretest and post-test to compare the changes of students’ scores before and after the experiment,and then uses chart analysis and SPSS19.0 tool to process and analyze the corresponding statistics.To conclude,applying schema theory to senior high school English listening teaching,which can also be put as activating students’ existing schemata,constructing new schemata and solidifying the received schemata,bringing about a clear positive impact on students’ performance;Owing to the introduction of the schema theory,students have a good command of the listening materials enabling them to gradually enhance their confidence and relieve their anxiety of English listening;Moreover,the combination of Schema Theory and listening teaching makes students deeply understand the process and essence of listening comprehension,greatly increases students’ strategic means to deal with difficult problems,calms students’ psychological anxiety and greatly releases their potential ability in the listening test. |
