For a long time,Chinese and foreign scholars have used linguistics and its related disciplines to analyze cohesive devices in translation. With the depth of research, the discussion on cohesion has also developed from translation to interpretation. The application of cohesive devices runs through every interpretation practice and is an important part of interpretation output. In Chinese-English interpretation, the logic of the interpretation will be greatly reduced if the implicit cohesion in the text cannot be sorted out.In the discussion of cohesive devices, most researchers pay attention to the importance of cohesive devices in translation, and the use of cohesive devices by student interpreters needs to be further studied.Based on Halliday’ s classification of cohesive devices, this thesis takes the C-E interpretations of 10 student interpreters in the final of the 9th All China Interpreting Contest as research materials, and statistically analyzes cohesive devices such as reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, reiteration and collocation,so as to provide reference for student interpreters to improve their awareness and ability of cohesion. It is found that even the high-level student interpreters have a low proportion of correct use of cohesive devices in interpretation. The most frequently used cohesive devices by student interpreters are reference and connection, and the least used cohesive devices are omission and substitution. In addition, the problem of random collocation of words is more prominent. It can be seen that students should pay more attention to content equivalence in Chinese-English interpretation, flexibly replace and deal with repeated information, and improve their awareness of using words accurately.
