| This paper is an E-C translation practice report.The source text is selected from Storm of Steel,written by a British writer Matthew Harffy.It mainly tells a story of the hero Beobrand’s life struggle.When facing endless difficulties,Beobrand always shows a fearless attitude.Setting in the dark seventh-century England,it is a thrilling and fluctuating story.The translation practice report mainly introduces the difficulties encountered by the translator and the corresponding solutions.Since it is a book about war,the translator decides to use objective language to translate in order to make the translation more dutiful to the original text.This translation report is mainly presented by analyzing specific examples.The difficulties in translation mainly cover those at lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The difficulties at lexical level mainly consist of the translation of culture-loaded words,polysemy,pronouns and colloquial expressions.As for the syntactic level,the difficulties mainly contain the translation of long sentences and attributive clauses.The difficulties at textual level mainly involve the cohesion and coherence of the translation.Furthermore,the original text consists of a large number of battle scenes,so the translator tries to reproduce the fierceness of battles in the translation.Thus,the translator adopts different translation strategies and methods to settle these difficulties.At the lexical level,the translator adopts the following methods: annotation,semantic extension,reduction and omission.At the syntactic level,the methods include recasting,prepositional and postpositional translation of attributive clauses.At the textual level,the translator mainly uses repetition,adding logical conjunctions and four-character structures.At the end of the report,the translator also analyzes her own experience and shortcomings after.Through this translation practice,the translator has learned something about the history of the seventh century in England.She has realized the importance of translation methods in the transformation of different languages.The translator also learns that in the process of translation,in addition to possessing the required professional knowledge,the translator should also pay more attention to improving the quality of translation,so as to improve her translation ability.The translator hopes this translation practice can help her accumulate more translation experience. |
