Interpretation has always been regarded as one of the most challenging tasks in foreign language learning. In the practice process of interpreting, the performance of interpreters is often affected by many aspects.Especially for MTI students who lack practical experience in interpreting,psycho-emotional factors are often the first obstacle they will face, and they will also have varying degrees of impact on their interpreting performance during the interpreting process.Among them,self-efficacy and interpretation anxiety,as two important emotional factors, play a very important role in the effectiveness of interpretation students’ learning. At present, many domestic and foreign scholars have carried out related research on anxiety and self-efficacy in the process of foreign language learning, but most of the research methods are summary of experience and theoretical textual summaries. The level of the research is relatively simple, and the research subjects are mostly professional interpreters,so there is a lack of empirical research on student interpreters, and there is no comprehensive and systematic solution to the causes of interpreting anxiety and self-efficacy.This research will focus on exploring whether MTI students have interpreting anxiety from the perspective of empirical research, how self-efficacy is in the process of interpreting, and the correlation between interpreting anxiety and self-efficacy,and whether the two have any effect on actual interpreting performance.Eleven second-year graduate students majoring in English interpretation were used as experimental subjects.Guided by Albert Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy and based on previous interpretation anxiety and self-efficacy scales in these two fields, the relevant data were analyzed through questionnaires, audio recordings, interviews with selected respondents, and statistical methods.Through this study,it is found that interpretation anxiety exists in the interpretation process of MTI students. The degree of interpretation anxiety varies with different interpreters, and there is a significant negative correlation between interpretation anxiety and self-efficacy.That is to say,the more anxious the student interpreters are,the lower their self-efficacy will be,and vice versa.Interpretation anxiety and self-efficacy have a slight influence on the actual interpretation performance of MTI students. Finally, according to the research conclusions, some reasonable suggestions and methods are put forward to help student interpreters overcome the anxiety of interpretation and improve their self-efficacy.And maintain a positive and stable attitude to deal with the task of interpreting learning, improve the level of interpreting, and hope to have a positive effect on the development of the interpreting discipline.
