Research On Gansu Province’s Donation Movement During The Anti-japanese War

Since modern times,with the decline of national strength,China has been faced with increasing external aggression and deepening national crisis.The situation of internal and external difficulties made Chinese people begin to seek ways to save the nation from subjugation,and the nationalist trend of thought rose.After the May 4th Movement and the September 18 th Incident,the July 7th Incident broke out in 1937.At the time of the survival of the Chinese nation,the nationalist sentiment of the Chinese people was at an all-time high,and it had changed from the "undercurrent" in modern times to the "tide" of resisting Japan and saving the nation.After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War,with the continuous expansion of the scale of the war,the national finance became more and more difficult.In order to achieve the goal of the Anti-Japanese War and the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the National Government mobilized the whole country widely.At this time,"People’s Anti-enemy Support Associations" were set up all over the country,and with the aim of "resisting external humiliation",they began to lead the people to carry out the donation campaign of "supporting the government and backing it up".During the Anti-Japanese War,due to the blockade of Japanese troops,China’s maritime international trade channel was interrupted.As a material transportation channel connecting the mainland and the Soviet Union,Gansu Province’s strategic position in wartime was enhanced.After the foundation of Gansu Provincial People’s Anti-enemy Support Association,the donation campaign was carried out in accordance with the principle of "having money,making contributions" of the central government.During the Anti-Japanese War,the donation movement in Gansu Province was mainly sponsored by public organizations and official institutions,which had many characteristics,such as numerous organizations,extensive public mobilization,various donation forms and numerous participating groups.However,in the process of the donation campaign,there are also some chaos such as forced donation,apportionment of donations and management confusion,which have brought some negative effects.On the whole,during the Anti-Japanese War,people in Gansu Province actively responded to the government’s call to launch a donation campaign,which provided some financial and material support for the front line of the Anti-Japanese War,encouraged the morale of the soldiers in front of the Anti-Japanese War,formed a wartime frugal atmosphere,strengthened people’s sense of national identity,and was conducive to the overall anti-Japanese War.
