With the accelerated development of new media technology and the catalysis of the epidemic,the effective dissemination of popular science short videos has attracted more and more attention.How to help popular science short videos stand out from the mass of short videos in terms of creativity,interest,efficiency and accuracy of content transmission through visual diversified design performance is the focus of this research and practice.This paper takes the context of new media as the research background,popular science short videos as the research object,As the target audience,visual diversity design is the starting point of research.Firstly,it combs the relevant theories of "new media","popular science short video" and "visual diversity";Secondly,it summarizes the visual performance characteristics of the world’s excellent popular science short videos in the context of new media,the common problems in the visual performance of popular science short videos in China,and the necessity and feasibility of the development of visual diversity design of popular science short videos;Finally,based on the preliminary market research,user research,user interviews and project positioning,the author takes the "why do fish have small thorns to kill us" column in Shanghai Natural History Museum Take the project as an example to practice the visual diversity design of popular science short videos.The specific practice content includes the following three points:(1)scene theme design.By refining the core elements covered by the script,construct a three-dimensional scene that fits the script,supplemented by lens switching from different angles to fit the narrative,so as to complete the setting of the scene and screen more lightweight.(2)Anchor dual role design.With the help of character animation software character animator[Adobe character animator is a motion capture and animation tool that can provide intuitive 2D character animation,real-time animation,character sharing and publishing solutions] face capture technology,the anchor leaves the country as a dual role: the anchor and the IP "little snail",and completes the partner interpretation through post synthesis.(3)Knowledge presents diversified design.Through the combination of three-dimensional scenes,twodimensional animation and partner interpretation,the knowledge in the popular science short video is presented in the way of personalized,playful and figurative design.In the network era of information explosion,the creation of popular science short videos in the context of new media needs to promote the dissemination of popular science knowledge through visual diversified expression methods that are more recognizable,artistic and contemporary,so as to make the transmission of popular science knowledge more shallow and easy to understand,more interesting and popular,so as to enable the high-quality development of popular science short videos in China and contribute to the goal of the national action plan for scientific quality in 2035 during the 14 th Five Year Plan period.
