Rembrandt painted many expressive Tronie during his "Leiden period",but this relatively new form of painting was not originally created by Rembrandt personally, but derived from the research work of Da Vinci.Rembrandt studies Tronie for three purposes. One is to increase commercial income through such works, but he does not take tronie as his main purpose.Second,Rembrandt is used as a basic exercise for the enrolled students.By mimicking the treatment of expressions in Rembrandt’s Tronie, the students laid the modelling foundation for their creations.Third, tronie are the basis of religious history painting.According to the comparison between Rembrandt’s tronie and his works on religious and historical themes, there are two ways of Rembrandt’s works:"text first" and"practice first".Either way,Tronie serve as basic training for styling, while also unning through the intermediate stages from text to images.Rembrandt, through tronie’ exploration, turned the pursuit of "paragons of beauty" for portraits since the Renaissance to the pursuit of the secular,so that painting developed towards authenticity. In terms of the way of expression,Rembrandt integrates the technique of concentrating light to make the edges of characters blurred, thus increasing the three-dimensional sense and enhancing the sense of reality. At the same time in the exploration of tronie, rational form and content of art in the Renaissance to match, not only further from religious admiral in the visual arts, and rational humanism spirit in the culture from the cover of the religious, makes the painting gradually from religion, the body of the painter will get more highlights.
