It is well known that vocabulary learning plays a very important role in the process of English learning,but the majority of students have troubles in memorizing vocabulary for the main reason that the traditional vocabulary sheets take much time with poor efficiency.Thus,at present,an increasing number of education experts begin to explore the effects of mind maps on memorizing English vocabulary.From the CNKI,many researches have already proved that the use of mind maps have positive impacts on memorizing vocabulary.However,there is scant research on comparing effects of different ways of using mind maps on English vocabulary learning,esp.English vocabulary review.Therefore,this research aims to compare the effects of three ways of using mind maps(the way of using root-based mind maps,the way of using context-based mind maps,and the hybrid way of using root-based mind maps and context-based mind maps)on English vocabulary review for senior high school entrance examination in order to respond the following main research questions.(1)Which way of using mind maps is more conducive to improving the ability of students to review English vocabulary,in terms of short-time memory of vocabulary and long-time memory of vocabulary?(2)Which way of using mind maps is more conducive to developing students’ interests and strategies in memorizing vocabulary?The experimental subjects of this research were 45 students in two parallel classes in the ninth grade of Guiyang No.21 middle school,and the experiment lasted for two months.During the research,the author divided 45 students into three groups,and guided the three groups of students to use three different ways of using mind maps to memorize words.Based on the research purpose,this experiment uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to collect data through vocabulary tests,questionnaires,and interviews.The experimental data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0.According to the discussion of the research results,in terms of vocabulary memory and cultivating strategies and interests,the hybrid way of using root-based mind maps and context-based mind maps shows the best effect among the three ways.Therefore,the research results might serve as a reference for English learners and future researches.
