This thesis focuses on Conversational Chinese by Wu Chang,a Chinese textbook published by Millington Limited Press in 1947.By reviewing the history of Chinese international education and Chinese textbooks in the Period of the Republic of China,it can be seen that Conversational Chinese is one of the few textbooks independently compiled by Chinese teachers in the period of the Republic of China.This thesis makes a comprehensive analysis of Conversational Chinese under the perspective of the history of Chinese international education,which is for the first time regarded as a typical Chinese textbook of the 1940 s.In terms of research methods,this thesis uses language acquisition theory,Chinese linguistics theory and comparative linguistics theory as the theoretical basis,and do the research under the support of linguistics,education,history subjects.The thesis focuses on the elements of Chinese language,exploring Conversational Chinese from four dimensions: Chinese characters,Chinese vocabulary,Chinese grammar and its text.First of all,from the perspective of Chinese characters,it is found that textbooks attach importance to the characters’ stroke orders and structure,and the teaching of Chinese characters combines writing and reading,and carries out multi-level teaching of it.Secondly,from the perspective of vocabulary,the number of it is large,which is influenced by the social background and the language application of this time.The vocabulary arrangement pays attention to morpheme meaning,word meaning aggregation and repetition rate,and the translation method is used in vocabulary teaching from simple to difficult.Finally,we explores grammar and text of this textbook.Through textual research,it can be seen that the division of parts of speech and tabulation teaching in the textbook should refer to foreign grammar works and Chinese grammar monographs.By researching the sources of the texts in the textbooks,it is found that the texts are mainly adapted from colloquial periodicals,local Chinese textbooks of the Republic of China and foreign fables.The main advantages of Conversational Chinese are simplified pronunciation teaching,emphasis on Chinese characters teaching,innovative use of table format practice methods;The shortcoming is that the phonetic teaching is not paid enough attention to,Teaching reading and writing characters at the same time,table innovation method also has some certain limitations.Further study of this textbook can fill in the 1940 s from the perspective of Chinese international education construction and research of vacancies,also provides literature support for the research on Chinese teaching institutions during this period and the research on the professional knowledge and competence of Chinese teachers,and also provides references for the current Chinese teaching practice... |
