Abstract/Summary:
Milton avery is an outstanding American modernist artist. His paintings have always been based on simple painting themes and unique viewing angles. He knows everything from beginning to end,and gradually spread from point to surface,so as to show the most real and essential side of things. However,it was at a time when abstract expressionism and realistic realism rose.It was a pity that the works were not recognized by the academic circles at that time. However, not recognized does not mean that there is no value.Good works will eventually spread for centuries and be talked about by future generations. What impresses the viewer most about Milton avery’s works is its painting color. As one of the important language expression art forms of painting, color has a very important influence: it can fully express the painter’s personal emotion and painting concept,is also the carrier of the painter’s personal emotion and spirit, and is the basic element of the picture. With the change of times, the painting color also presents a variety of styles, and the picture created by avery has a high degree of color harmony, which will only be more distinctive with the passage of time.Although many things that looked avant-garde in the past looked outdated, avery’s painting colors still resonated, and later generations called him "one of the greatest colorists in America".This paper is divided into four parts: the first part mainly analyzes Milton avery’s paintings, and makes a systematic study on his painting style, landscape, characters, treatment of scenery themes and composition forms; The second part analyzes the positive influence of Fauvism artists on Milton aver’s painting color, which makes the painter develop from Impressionism to modernism, and finally form his own unique painting language and art system; The third part combines the works of a group of modernist artists to seek the similarity with Milton avery’s painting color,so as to analyze the influence of his painting color on modern painting; The fourth part studies Milton avery’s works of art and applies them to my specific creative practice.
