Zhang Yida is a prolific composer. Many of his choral works are widely sung and deeply loved in China. The reason behind this is that his choral works are rooted in Chinese culture, based on Chinese folk songs and ballads, and adapted and created with the creative techniques of the integration of China and the west, which meets the general appreciation habits and aesthetic needs of Chinese people.Taking Zhang Yida’s four choral works based on Chinese folk songs and ballads as an example, this paper analyzes the theme development techniques of Zhang Yida’s choral works.Through the analysis of material extraction, texture application, harmony vocabulary and other angles, this paper analyzes and summarizes the general rules of his treatment of this kind of works. For the choral conductors and choirs, the goal of analyzing the works is to understand the meaning behind the spectrum and finally settle in interpretation and practice. Therefore, through the in-depth analysis and study of his works, this paper also explores the requirements and details that need to be paid attention to when rehearsing such works, and strives to better realize the composer’s creative intention in the process of secondary creation.
