Research On Wang Dong’s Thought Of Ci Poetry

Wang Dong was an important poet and ci poetic expert in the Republic of China.He devoted his life to poetry writing,and his achievements in the field of ci poetry studies should not be ignored.His General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies established a theoretical system of modern ci poetry studies earlier,which represented the research level of ci poetry studies from the 1920 s to 1930 s,and indicated the research path for later scholars.In addition,some prefaces and commentary texts also contain relatively unique concepts of ci poetry,shining with rational brilliance.At present,the academic circles have done some research on Wang Dong’s ci poetry works,but there are little systematic researches about his ci poetry thoughts.The dissertation introduces Wang Dong’s life and contacts,focuses on discussing Wang Dong’s ci poetry origination and his theory of ci poetry studies.Combined with Wang Dong’s General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies,this dissertation analyzes the system of modern ci poetry studies constructed by Wang Dong,and makes a comprehensive and objective summary and evaluation of Wang Dong’s thoughts on ci poetry studies.The dissertation includes the introduction,the main body and the conclusion,besides,the main body is divided into four chapters:The introduction discusses the origin of topic selection,the research status,purpose,practical significance,methods and innovation points.Existing research mainly focuses on Wang Dong’s life and ci poetry works,and a small amount of researches on the association,teaching in the Republic of China and the origin of Shen Zufen’s ci poetry works also involves Wang Dong.However,in the transition from the traditional study of ci poetry creation to the modern study of ci poetry,the significance and status of Wang Dong and his General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies cannot be ignored.Therefore,it is urgent to sort out Wang Dong’s thought on ci poetry studies.The first chapter discusses the formation of Wang Dong’s ci poetry theory.In Wang Dong’s childhood,he was under the guidance of his father and grandfather.When he was young,he engaged in the 1911 Revolution and learned ci poetry’s writing.In his middle age,he taught the study of ci poetry in National Central University in Nanjing.During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,he recorded his mind’s journey with ci writing.And in his later years,he stayed in the mainland and continued to write poetry.Wang Dong has engaged in Ru club,Yongyuan group of ci poets,Zhi club,and kept close contact with Huang Kan,Wu Mei,Yin Menglun,and Lv Zhenbai.Ci poetry writing and teaching experience promotes the formation and dissemination of Wang Dong’s thought of ci poetry.The second chapter discusses Wang Dong’s origination of ci poetry.There are two kinds of evaluation of Wang Dong’s origination of ci poetry since the Republic of China: the one is originated from Zhou Bangyan,the other is originated from Chen Weisong.Firstly this chapter makes a statistical analysis of Wang Dong’s responsory ci poems written in different periods as internal evidence of origination,and analyzes Wang Dong’s thought of ci poetry embodied in his ci poems.Secondly it summarizes Comments of Tang and Song Ci Poetry Selections,analyzes Wang Dong’s selection and evaluation of tang and Song ci poets and poems as an external evidence of his origination of ci poetry.Finally it summarizes that Wang Dong studied Zhou Bangyan’s ci poems all his life,but he was not just learning one style.He studied Li Yu’s ci poems as a beginning in his early years.But in his later years,influenced by the environment,he studied Xin Qiji.In addition,his later changdiao also absorbed the strength of Liu Yong’s ci poems.The third chapter discusses Wang Dong’s concepts of ci poetry.By sorting out Wang Dong’s works on ci poetry and related articles,it analyzes Wang Dong’s concepts of ci poetry from the perspectives of ci poetry’s style,ci poetry’s history,and the relationship between ci poetry’s art and rhythm,and deeply explores the inner connection between the formation of these thoughts and Changzhou ci poetry school.Wang Dong inherited Changzhou ci poetry school’s concepts on the origin and functions of ci poetry,but rebated on the issues of nomenclature,the best style and so on,and developed his understanding of the status of ci poetry.However,due to his later experience,his thought system of ci poetry could not be timely supplemented and perfected.The fourth chapter discusses the theoretical system and contribution of Wang Dong’s representative work General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies.Firstly,it introduces the theoretical system of ci poetry constructed by Wang Dong’s General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies.Secondly,it compares Wang Dong’s General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies with two other general theoretical compositions in the same period: Wu Mei’s General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies and Hu Yunyi’s ABC of Ci Poetry Studies.Wang’s composition was influenced by Wu’s,so they have fewer differences,which collectively represent the characteristics of Southeast-Central University’s ci poetry research that emphasizes ci poetry’s form,rhythm,and creation.Wang’s composition and Hu’s composition have great differences in fundamental issues such as origin,definition,form,and creating methods of ci poetry,which reflects different research paths of scholars in the north and the south of China.The former seems to be more precise.Finally,it discusses the historical significance of Wang Dong’s General Theory of Ci Poetry Studies.The conclusion concludes the full text.The scholars of the Republic of China represented by Wang Dong played an important role in inheriting the tradition of ci poetry studies that emphasizes creation and form and establishing a disciplined and independent modern system of ci poetry studies.The reason why Wang Dong’s is not famous by his ci poems,the one is he has few representative works,the other is some of the works were inevitably of low quality.Although Wang Dong’s thought of ci poetry has certain shortcomings,it is still a valuable attempt,which reflects the transitional nature of the scholar’s thought of ci poetry in the Republic of China.
