Study On The Characteristics Of Applying Colors In Zhoufang’s Ladies With Zanhua

Traditional Chinese painting has its own unique color style in the use of color.In traditional Chinese painting works,color is not only the true restoration of the original color of the object,but also regarded as a tool to express personal thoughts and emotions,reflecting the subjective aesthetic taste of painters.On the basis of the previous dynasties,the painters of the Tang Dynasty combined foreign color techniques and expression forms with local paintings,presenting a rich and colorful new look,and the painting colors of the Tang Dynasty also continued to develop and mature in the exchange of Chinese and foreign art.With the prosperity of politics and economy,the painting art of tang Dynasty gradually entered the prosperous stage,and the painting level also got unprecedented development.Both the quantity and quality of the works have reached an unprecedented height,especially the ladies’ paintings,whose use of color has gradually reached its peak,with distinct representativeness.The Tang Dynasty was also the peak period for the creation of fine brushwork paintings of ladies in China’s art history.As one of the most representative painters in this period,Zhoufang has his own unique experience in the use of color,which is worthy of our learning and reference.Zhoufang,who was active in the middle and late Tang Dynasty,was born in the aristocracy,so he had a good understanding of the life of the upper class,which provided many favorable conditions for his painting of ladies.Therefore,most of his meticulous figure paintings were mainly about aristocratic women in the Tang Dynasty.His representative work,Ladies with Zanhua,depicts a leisurely life scene with plump figures and soft colors.Zhoufang’s works have been loved by people since the Tang Dynasty and have exerted extensive influence on later generations and even neighboring countries,thus having certain research value.As an important painting expression language,color is of self-evident importance to traditional meticulous figure painting.As a classic work of Chinese traditional meticulous figure painting,Zanhua Ladies is not only a model for us to learn,but also has important research value for the inheritance and development of contemporary meticulous figure painting.This paper takes Zashi Ladies as the main research object and combines many ancient and modern paintings to analyze and study the coloring characteristics of Zhoufang’s Zashi Ladies paintings from the perspective of China’s traditional color concept and western color theory.Zhoufang’s distinctive painting style of ladies has left a strong imprint on the painting art of the Tang Dynasty.His painting style is praised as "Zhou-style" by later generations,which occupies an important historical position in the history of Chinese art and also has a far-reaching influence on later generations.
