This report selects Chapters 4 and 5 of Sustainable Land Management in a European Context as its translation material. The two chapters are rigorous and highly academic in language, containing terms in the fields of land and urbanization. Therefore, the translator should focus on not only the authenticity of information, but also the readability of the translated text so as to achieve translation equivalence. To this end,the translator should shift the source text at different levels and categories.Guided by Catford’s Theory of Translation Shifts, this report exemplifies the grammatical-lexical shifts, structure shifts, class shifts, unit shifts and intra-system shifts between English and Chinese on the basis of level shifts and category shifts, analyzes and summarizes the application of Translation Shifts Theory to the translation of informative texts.Through this translation practice, the author’s translation ability and understanding of informative text translation have been further improved and strengthened. It is hoped that Translation Shifts Theory can be widely referred to by translators in the translation of informative texts.
