To this day, women’s issues in India are still a key part of the world’s women’s research agenda. In the pre-Vedic era,Indian women continued to be allowed to study the scriptures. With the establishment of the Indian patriarchal society, the living conditions of Indian women deteriorated, and they gradually became subordinate to male ideology in society. After the battle of Plassey, the British colonial rulers formally established the colonial rule of India. When they first arrived in India, although the British colonists saw the plight of Indian women in their eyes, they did not intervene in order to stabilize the colonial regime as soon as possible.Until 1829,under the advocacy of a large number of Indian progressives, the Indian women’s reform movement was launched, which promoted the introduction of many bills to protect the right to life of women in India, stopped women from dying for their deceased husbands, promoted widows to remarry, and raised the marriage age of girls to provide education.Opportunity, though poorly implemented, laid the groundwork for several secular domestic marriage laws for women, such as the Hindu Marriage Act.After 1954,India promulgated a number of women’s marriage and family laws, covering the validity of marriage, dissolution of marriage, women’s right to live alone and maintenance rights, etc.realizing the legal evolution and reform from women’s right to life safety to women’s rights and interests protection. However, due to the prominent label of a religious state in India, the specific judicial practice of women’s law is restricted by the caste system, religious culture, traditional customs, etc.,and the effect of judicial practice is not ideal. The promulgation of the Women’s Act provides a legal basis for women to defend their rights and interests.Although most Indian women are reluctant to take family affairs to court due to the influence of religious traditions, there are still courageous and determined women who take up legal weapons to protect themselves, such as Rukhmabaicase.During the reform and evolution of Indian women’s law,the status of women has been promoted to a certain extent, but the problems arising from the reform process cannot be ignored. This article delves into the evolution of women’s laws enacted in India from 1829 to 1978.
