A Research Linguistic And Cultural Research Of The Geographical Names In Yichang

Geographical name is an important part of Chinese lexical system,and the study of antonym’s phonetics,vocabulary and rhetoric can enrich the linguistic research results.At the same time,place names have reference function to certain geographical entities,which is an indispensable communicative tool in People’s Daily life.The study of place name culture can deeply understand the history and culture of a region.In this paper,the geographical names of 1779 administrative divisions in Yichang city are selected as research objects and investigated and analyzed from the perspectives of linguistics and culturology.The linguistic investigation of place names in Yichang city is mainly carried out from three aspects: phonetics,words,figures.The results are as follows: 1.The syllable structure of place names in Yichang is dominated by double syllables and three syllables.In terms of sound and rhyme collocation,level and oblique tones take up most of the syllable structure,and level tone is the main tone,and oblique tone is the supplement.2.The toponym structure of Yichang is mainly in the form of "special name + general name" and "special name + general name + general name".The characters used for special name mainly fall into four categories: geographical entity,personal name and surname,psychological expectation and numeral.3.In rhetoric,there are mainly seven ways: metaphor,metaphor,analogy,taboo ornament,exaggeration,homophony and allusion.This paper summarizes and analyzes the reasons of the names of yichang city from four angles: physical geography,human geography,the intention of the namers and the remnants of minority languages.The results show that: 1.The topographic and hydrological place-names in Yichang occupy about 54.97% of the total.The terrain is complex,both plain,hill,mountain,and has a rich and developed water system.The mineral,plant and animal resources of Yichang can also be observed from the place names.2.The humanistic place names in Yichang include three aspects:People’s family names,cultural landscapes and historical facts and legends.3.Some of the characters of "che","hu","zi","mai" and "ku" in yichang place names are left over from Tujia language.The cultural investigation of the place-names of Yichang city is analyzed from The Three Kingdoms culture,Bachu culture,religious culture and times culture.15.The war involved Xiaoting,Yidu,Yuan ’an,Dangyang,Zigui,Changyang and other places.Yichang is also the birthplace of Guan Gong culture.2.Ba ethnic group arose in the Qingjiang River valley in the southwest of Yichang.Tujia,the descendants of Ba people,now live widely in Yichang,and the pre-Chu culture originated in Juzhang River Valley in Yichang.The local words of Chu are still preserved in the place names of Yichang,such as "Yuan","Tuo","Dun" and "Bu".
