Deconstruction In The Translation Process ——A Report On E-C Translation Of Ann Vickers(Excerpt)

This translation report uses Ann Vickers（chapters 20-24）,a novel by Nobel Laureate Sinclair Lewis,as the translation text,and introduces the translation process and theoretical support of deconstruction translation theory,while also conducting a detailed case analysis and summarizing the translation flaws and improvements.Ann Vickers,a novel published in English by Sinclair Lewis in 1933,portrays Ann Vickers as a severe,independent and straightforward heroine.Chapters 20-24 of this book are the author’s translation exercises with about 40000 Chinese characters.This study chooses deconstruction translation theory as the theoretical foundation based on a complete analysis of literary texts,and introduces the three concepts of “differance,”“supplement,” and “foreignization” in deconstruction translation theory.The author elaborates on the guidance of deconstruction translation theory on literary translation and its application in literary translation by conducting a textual case study on six translation strategies,namely“change of order,” “change of voice,” “amplification,” “replacement,” “word foreignization,” and“sentence foreignization,” under the guidance of these translation concepts.Finally,the author sums up her translation experience and concludes that deconstruction translation theory can be used to guide literary translation.The concepts of “differance” and“supplement” can reflect the historical characteristics of the original text,whilst “foreignization”can preserve the source language’s unique culture and bring the translation as near to the original text as feasible.When translating,translators might employ suitable translation techniques and strategies to achieve a more ideal result.
