A Report On The C-E Translation Of Comment On Zigong Lantern Festival(the Third Chapter,the Third Section)from The Perspective Of Deconstruction Theory

As folk culture has always been closely linked with people’s life,it reflects the way people live.Nowadays,the strategy of making “Chinese culture” go global aims to tell Chinese stories and share with the world message from China,and translation plays an increasingly critical role in cultural exchange.The book analyzes the source of fire and transformation of lanterns,introduces the arts and crafts of Zigong Lantern Festivals in terms of the forms and exhibition layout of Chinese lanterns for the first time by integrating lantern histories and exploring theories.Therefore,the book is chosen as a source text as well as a translation subject in a bid to share the Chinese lantern culture with the world and contribute to spreading Zigong lanterns.From the perspective of Derrida’s deconstruction theory,the report takes the third chapter,the third section—Summary of Chief Lantern Types of Zigong Lantern Festival — in the book of Comment on Zigong Lantern Festival as the source text of the translation and then the author takes a look at the whole translation process.Based on deconstruction theory,this report summarizes the translation approaches of cultural explanatory texts,for example based on specific context,a translator should protect the heterogeneity of original texts or show their connotation;Annotation is needed to add necessary cultural background;Quantity doesn’t equal quality,so a translator needs to consider them comprehensively;Specification is required to break untranslatability of rhetoric.And then,case studies are chosen to think about how to deconstruct the source text based on différance and dissemination,trace and supplement as well as translatability and untranslatability so as to make a target text the afterlife of a source text,accurately translate culturally-loaded words and spread Chinese cultural connotations worldwide.It is found that the application of deconstruction theory to cultural expository is helpful to guide the translation of cultural texts.The theory champions openness and diversity and puts emphasis on deconstruction and reconstruction rather than destruction,which means translators should adopt the translation approaches like annotation and specification to make a target text the afterlife of a source text.Meanwhile,the translation practice is conducive to spreading Chinese lantern culture abroad.
