A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Practice Of Chinese Banquet 2020

With the Belt and Road Initiative development,China is playing an essential role in world cultural exchanges.As one of the typical Chinese cultural symbols,food culture not only spreads food culture itself but also reflects local customs and historical changes in cultural dissemination.Chinese Banquet 2020 is a documentary aimed at spreading the Chinese banquet culture,which expresses the implicit emotions of the Chinese people through banquets.This documentary has effectively promoted the dissemination and exchange of traditional Chinese banquet culture.The first three episodes,namely,Clan,Celebration and Birth are used as the material for the simulated practice of consecutive interpreting.It is hoped that more people can learn about Chinese banquet culture through this documentary.The whole simulated consecutive interpreting practice includes preinterpreting preparation,interpreting,and post-interpreting evaluation.Through the analysis under the guidance of relevance theory,difficulties in interpreting such as logically-loose sentences,cultural-specific items,and language redundancy sentences were found.Eight methods can be used to solve the above problems through case analysis,such as identifying the subject,cultural substitution,and reducing duplicate information.On the basis of the interpreter’s own cognitive context,the interpreter should first obtain the information of the speaker,and then,under the premise of considering the cognitive context of the hearer,the interpreter conveys the speaker’s information intention and communicative intention.At last,the final translation is aimed at achieving the optimal relevance.The analysis of this thesis finds that adequate pre-interpreting preparation,long-term interpreting practice,and flexible use of interpreting skills play an important role in the interpreting process.It is hoped that the analysis and summary of this simulated interpreting practice can help the future interpreting.
