| The Compulsory education English Curriculum Standard(2011)points out that students should acquire linguistic knowledge and improve their understanding ability by English reading.At the same time,the following requirements are put forward for junior middle school graduates: students are able to extract and understand the detailed information of the text in the process of reading;Students are able to summarize the main idea of the text according to each paragraph;Students are able to make inference and judgment according to the content;Students are able to guess the meaning of the words according to context and word formation;Students are able to distinguish and understand different genres of articles;Students should master more than 150000 words.However,most students’ English reading level has not met the requirements.Therefore,it is worth thinking about how to improve students’ English reading interest and reading proficiency.Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model is an effective students-centered approach and it helps students gain knowledge through a group.Based on the Cooperative Learning theory and Zone of Proximal Development theory,this study chose 108 students from a middle school in Yan’an as the research object,and chose the research methods of questionnaire,test and interview to explore the following two research questions:(1)Can Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model help to improve junior middle school students’ interest in reading?(2)Can Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model help to improve junior middle school students’ English reading scores?On the premise of ensuring the consistency of teaching material,teaching progress and class hours,the traditional teaching method is used in the control class and Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model is used in the experimental class for one semester.By the way of questionnaires,interview and tests,this study draws the following conclusions:Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model can help to improve junior middle school students’ interest in reading;Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Model can help to improve junior middle school students’ English reading scores. |
