| Writing,as a comprehensive productive skill,plays an essential role in second language learning.Although writing is relatively complex and full of challenges,it is the best way to assist students’ further language learning due to the reinforcement and the experiences gained through the writing process.Senior Middle School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)(hereinafter referred to as Curriculum Standards(2017))put forward four core competencies,which are language ability,learning capacity,thinking skills and cultural awareness.In order to better implement these four core competencies,the integrated course structure is proposed in Curriculum Standard(2017).Meanwhile,discourse type is put forward for the first time,which is included in these six content elements.Among these elements,discourse type is designed to guide students to learn about different common genres.As for junior high school students,practical writing is the most common genre.Since the publication of Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics theory(1978)and John Swales’ s genre analysis theory(1990),there has been increasing interests in the pedagogical application of genre-based approach among language educators.In order to explore proper answers to address two research questions put forward in this paper,a three-month systematic experiment research has been conducted.This research was carried out in Hefei No.45 middle school.106 students from 2 natural classes of third grade were selected as experiment participants.The data was mainly collected by means of questionnaire,interviews,and tests.After that,the data collected in time were analyzed by the software SPSS 26.This paper also gives major findings and discussions according to the practical application of genre-based approach.Based on the research objectives,this paper aims to address the following two questions:(1)What is genre-based approach’s impact on junior high school students’ writing attitude?(2)What is genre-based approach’s impact on junior high school students’ practical writing ability?After the experiment research,the test scores in two classes were both examined and analyzed.The data of questionnaire and interview were gathered and compared by SPSS 26.The result from questionnaire and interview shows that students’ overall writing attitude have been improved,indicating that this approach can release students’ writing barriers and activate their writing confidence in a positive way.The result from tests shows that the writing scores have been increased significantly in the experiment class after this experiment,which indicates students’ performance in the experiment class have been developed and the degree of improving was more significant than the controlled class.This confirmed that the application of genre-based approach can effectively enable students to strengthen their practical writing abilities.At last,the author also offers implementing suggestions based on the practical application of the genre-based approach. |
