| Dialogue is a very important part of literary works, which can shape the character, plot, and psychological changes of characters. Therefore, dialogue translation is not as easy for translators as expected. This paper makes a comparative analysis of the dialogue translation of the two Chinese translations of Moment in Peking from the four research angles of adaptation theory, and analyzes how the two translators adapt in the process of translation,as well as the similarities and differences of their adaptation. It is hoped that it can shed some light on dialogue translation both theoretically and practically.Based on a review of previous studies on dialogue translation and adaptation theory,it is found that there are still many defects and deficiencies in the research on adaptation theory, and the research on dialogue translation has not received enough attention. Therefore, this paper combines adaptation theory and dialogue translation, hoping to provide some enlightenment and a new vision for translation.Containing a large number of poems, classics, and place names, the dialogue in Moment in Peking is a great challenge for translators. The translation of dialogue should take into account the differences in language, culture, and environment between Chinese and western. All these have caused certain translation difficulties to the translators.Translators need to have strong language skills and cultural awareness. It is found that from the four research perspectives of adaptation theory, the two translators took into account the differences of culture, language and society to varying degrees in their translation, and made variant degrees of adaptation to dialogue translation in the process of translation.Among the selected examples,Zhang Zhenyu mostly adopts the free translation strategy, which is flexible and vivid, while Yu Fei more frequently adopts the literal translation strategy, attaching more importance to faithfulness. |
