Liang Shuming is the main representative of modern Neo-Confucianism,and his thought had a profound impact on Chinese society in the twentieth century. In order to find a way to save the society at that time,Liang Shuming has been exploring two core issues throughout his life, one is the "life issue" and the other is the "social issue".By combining Bergson’s philosophy of life,he made Confucius’ Confucianism "life-like" and constructed a complete set of philosophy of life. This is not only the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese Confucian culture, but also rejuvenates the traditional culture that was in decline at that time.Liang Shuming’s philosophy of life is mainly divided into three aspects.First of all,on the issue of metaphysics,Liang Shuming agreed with the concept of "life" put forward by Bergson, and established his own cosmology by integrating the ideas of Consciousness Only and Confucianism. He believes that life is not only the foundation of all things, but also the necessity for the existence and development of all things, and that life is still an "endless will" All existence in the universe is inseparable from the movement of life, that is,"life impulse".Secondly, from the existence of the universe to the social life, the "life impulse" forge ahead to form animals, which is the most representative of the animal category in the development process of human beings.Liang Shuming believed that human beings,as the main body of "life",consisted of two parts of life,"body" and "mind".The two were in a state of interdependence and opposition, that is,the individual life based on the body, through the rational thinking of the human heart,It integrates with the life of the universe, showing the nature of life. Finally,on the basis of individual life,Liang Shuming proposed that human beings with intelligent life have an inherent nature in themselves, and the existence of this nature is due to the function of the "human heart".Liang Shuming believed that the biggest difference between humans and animals is that humans have intelligence and that humans can produce reason. As for the understanding of the human heart,Liang Shuming was influenced by Kropotkin in the early days, and accepted Bergson’s statement, dividing the characteristics of the human heart into instinct and reason. In the later period,Liang Shuming believed that Russell’s trichotomy was more accurate.By emphasizing the importance of rationality,he developed the triadic method of instinct, reason and rationality to complete the transformation of his own thinking from intuition to rationality. It provides a certain theoretical basis for the formation of the rural construction thought proposed by Liang Shuming.Throughout Liang Shuming’s life, although he maintained a Buddhist way of life and was deeply influenced by Buddhist thought,in the end his problem-solving method and specific realistic goals were all Confucian thought and his attitude towards the real society was positive.Entering the world is different from Buddhist thought. He strictly demands him with the Buddhist way of life, and saves the society with the spirit of Confucianism. He gave traditional Confucianism a new meaning to life.Although his thoughts overemphasized the importance of the human heart, and finally fell into idealism, with a strong subjective color,it cannot be denied that Liang Shuming had a profound influence on the revival of traditional culture.During such a special period, amid the anti-traditional voices,Liang Shuming formed his own unique philosophy of life by absorbing and integrating the Western Bergson’s philosophy of life, holding high the banner of revival of Confucianism, and opened up a new era of modern Neo-Confucianism.This trend of thought is the trend of Chinese humanism.
