| Feng Zhi is an outstanding poet in modern Chinese poetry who stands at the junction of Chinese and Western poetries, and a contemplative who is constantly in denial and in a conflict of thought.Due to the collision of ideas and the deepening of life experience,Feng Zhi’s poetry has extremely pronounced ephemeral character. His early poetry has a tendency to purify the passions of the times and to speak in terms of forms,so his early poetic outlook is "classical romanticism";Feng Zhi’s mid-career poetry comes from the depth of his life experiences, and he creates many images with the color of Confucian sages in order to realize his memorials of human gratitude.Feng Zhi’s choice of "sonnets" also reflects his call for social order,so his mid-period poetic outlook can be summarized by "the ethical principle of grasping nature";Feng Zhi’s later poetic outlook is "the textual practice of Confucian ethics," meaning the abandonment of Confucianism. The later poetic view of Feng Chi is the "textual practice of Confucian ethics," meaning that he gives up the reconciliation of the phenomenal world with metaphysical thought and turns to speak about it comprehensively in the phenomenal world.During this period,Feng Zhi’s poetic style was transformed by the "decisive" spirit of existentialism and his preexisting Confucian poetic teachings. However, his artistic standards were greatly diminished by the absence of white space in his speech and his structural wandering. From the early to the late period of Feng Zhi’s work, what changed was his specific artistic approach, but what remained the same was the core of his poetic outlook.Confucian poetic teachings, which served as social norms and ethics, morality, and order, especially Confucius’ aesthetic thought, intrinsically built Feng Zhi’s aesthetic cultural psychology, making his poetics an ethical aesthetics with a "moral aesthetic. This ethical aesthetics internalized Feng Zhi’s vision of social life and projected the aesthetic connotation of Feng Zhi’s creative texts, making his creations show a tendency to "make a speech" for the times. As a whole,Feng Zhi’s poetic outlook shows the chronological characteristics of Confucian poetics as its core, existentialism as its skeleton, and Taoist Zen aesthetics as its texture. In the different phases of Feng Zhi’s creation, these characteristics are combined in different weights and present very different faces in his poetics. The poetic tension formed by these factors not only makes his creative work highly contemporary, but also allows Feng Zhi to find a balance and complementarity among these conflicting ideas to sustain his creative work, which is also the unique charm of Feng Zhi’s poetic view.In addition,Feng Zhi’s poetic paradigm, which straddles both Chinese and Western cultures, has brought new inspiration to the modern Chinese poetry scene. His rebuttal of the negative posture inherent in metaphysics with a "new ethics" built his positive poetic posture, thus clearing the haze that hung over the new Chinese poetry;his conviction to record the times with truth also shows us the significant influence of the changing times on the creative development of the intellectuals represented by Feng Zhi.In addition,Feng Zhi’s aesthetic exploration of the combination of form, emotion and reason and his creation of sonnet variants also give some useful insights into the development of Chinese poetry. |
