Discovery And Research Of Paleolithic Sites In The South Of Khangai-Khentii Mountains,Mongolia

The origin and dispersal of modern Homo sapiens is one of the hot spots of paleolithic archaeological research.Mongolia,as an important region on the northern dispersal route of modern humans,has received little attention by researchers in China.At present,thousands of Paleolithic sites and localities have been discovered in Mongolia,and some of them have been excavated and researched for many years.A lot of new information has been accumulated,which provides new data for solving the Paleolithic-related problems in this region.The Khangai-Khentii Mountains lie across the central part of Mongolia,dividing the Paleolithic of Mongolia into two major regions,north and south.The Selenga River basin in the north is adjacent to the Baikal region in Russia and has a similar Paleolithic culture.As for the Gobi and steppe in the south,it borders with China,and the study of this region can help to associate and compare with the related sites in China.Therefore,this thesis selects the south of Khangai-Khentii Mountain in Mongolia as the study area.At the same time,this paper chooses sites that have been systematically excavated in this region as the research object,which can correspond the Paleolithic culture with the dating.This thesis includes five chapters: Introduction,Overview of Paleolithic Research,Paleolithic Sites in the South of Khangai-Khentii Mountains,Paleolithic Cultural Sequence and Research,and Conclusion,with the following details.（1）Compile the history of Palaeolithic archaeological research,summarize the history of the development of Palaeolithic archaeology,and introduce the research progress of Palaeolithic research in this region.（2）Collate the base materials of excavated Palaeolithic sites in this area,and summarize information on the location,stratigraphy,dating,lithic artifacts,and fauna of these sites.（3）Summarize the characteristics of the Paleolithic industry and cultural landscape from the Middle Paleolithic to the Upper Paleolithic in this area.Compare and analyze the lithic technology and lithic assemblage,study the evolution of the typology of the Paleolithic industry,and establish the sequence of Paleolithic cultural development in this region.Divide the Middle and Upper Paleolithic in this region into five periods: FMP,IUP,EUP MUP and LUP.（4）Discuss the communication and diffusion of Paleolithic cultures in this region.It is speculated that there were four possible migration or cultural transmission routes in the region.
