Conditional complex sentences account for a large proportion in both spoken and written Chinese.Foreign students often need to use conditional complex sentences when communicating in Chinese. However, owing to the influence of a variety of factors, many Chinese learners can’t really and accurately apply conditional complex sentences to daily expression, especially in Chinese writing, resulting in many errors. In previous studies, many researchers have explained this problem from multiple perspectives. This paper attempts to sort out and analyze the use of conditional complex sentences by middle and advanced native English speakers, hoping to provide a new perspective and possibility for the Chinese teaching of conditional complex sentences. The first chapter recap the causation and significance about the topic selection, summarizes the previous relevant research, defines the research content, and makes a concise statement of the source and scope of the corpus, innovation and shortcomings. The second chapter investigates the usage of conditional complex sentence.Based on the HSK dynamic composition corpus and the global interlanguage Corpus, this paper makes a statistical analysis of Chinese conditional complex sentences written by foreign students from four major English-speaking countries(UK,USA,Canada and Australia),only in argumentative writing, sometimes even argumentative writing, some foreign students also exist in the absence of conditional complex sentences.Second,in the process of using Chinese conditional complex sentences, middle and advanced native English speakers are prone to produce structural errors, which are mainly in the aspect of grammatical structure,as well as semantic and pragmatic errors. The third chapter summarizes the types of errors in Chinese conditional complex sentences by native English speakers, which are mainly divided into general errors and coherence errors.General errors, that is,surface form errors, semantic errors, including errors in the form of connectives, errors in the addition of connectives, loss of sentence elements, substitution of sentence elements, wrong order of sentence elements, punctuation errors, etc.,it includes that the frequent occurrence of connectives leads to redundant errors, which weaken contextual coherence, and the semantic and pragmatic discontinuity of reading caused by mis-addition and mis-substitution of connectives. Then, from the perspectives of negative transfer of mother tongue knowledge and negative transfer of target language knowledge, combining with the theory of language transfer and taking into account teaching factors, this paper makes a deep comparative analysis of English Conditional adverbial clauses and modern Chinese conditional complex sentences,in order to find out the cause of all kinds of errors. The fourth chapter gives some teaching suggestions on Chinese conditional complex sentence for middle and advanced English native speakers, namely,“Fine in generality, speculative in comparison and learning in application”,and then breaks it down into relative concrete methods, that is to say,to cultivate students’ frame consciousness,to attach importance to two-way language transfer,to bring into play teachers’ and students’ subjective initiative,to integrate into specific writing topics,etc..Finally,taking narrative style as an example, the process analysis and model design of the output of Chinese conditional complex sentences are carried out.The fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the problems, the specific types and the causes of the errors, and the corresponding teaching strategies. |
