Nowadays, literature and film and television convergences form the literary adaptation film and television, mostly through the production of visual, conflict, drama as the characteristics of spectacle,in order to attract the audience. The film and television spectacle adapted from literature is an important media cultural phenomenon in China today. It has penetrated into the daily life of the public.Kellner’s media culture theory has a diversified and rich ideological connotation, and he has placed the theory in the objective realistic environment for concrete research, establishing a theory that meets the development characteristics of the times.Analyzing the film and television spectacle adapted from literature with Kellner’s media culture theory helps to make a macro and micro perspective of the film and television spectacle adapted from literature, and helps to cognize the whole picture of the film and television spectacle adapted from literature in depth and in three dimensions. The first chapter sorts out, summarizes and summarizes Kellner’s media culture theory.Kellner’s academic research ideas are mainly derived from Marxism, the Frankfurt School, the British School of Cultural Studies, and postmodernism theory, and he constructs the media culture theory by absorbing and borrowing from various cultural theories.Kellner criticizes modern and postmodern theories for their determination of the characteristics of the era in which they are located, and believes that media culture is in between modern and postmodern. In studying specific media culture phenomena,he adopts a diagnostic, pluralistic, and symptomatic approach to analyze media culture in a comprehensive and objective manner.Kellner believes that media culture today has succumbed to the logic of the spectacle, and that the media spectacle is the contemporary characteristic of media culture today. In absorbing the theory of "landscape " of Debord,he reconstructed the theory of media spectacle. In the process of translating and studying Kellner’s works,Chinese scholars have gradually opened up the study of cultural phenomena and theories such as media spectacle and film spectacle in China. The second chapter, based on the current development situation of Chinese society, analyzes the phenomenon of literary adaptation of film and television being spectacle under the overall effect of society from a macro perspective. It starts from the three links of production, dissemination and acceptance, and makes an overall arrangement of the causes, general appearance and results of the three links.Based on Kellner’s media culture theory and research approach, firstly,it is possible to explore the tendency of industrialized production of present-day film and television spectacles adapted from literature, which has led to the formation of a large number of simulated spectacles, thus leading to the alienated spectacle consumption behavior of the public.Secondly, the integration of capital and media technology has reshaped the communication mode of the film and television spectacles adapted from literature, resulting in the homogenization of spectacle fragmentation and homogenization of communication, which has led to the creation of more discourse fields with identity. Finally, the circulation of the film and television spectacle adapted from literature to the audience, the strong expressions of society and media promote the phenomenon of spectacle clustering, and form the manipulation and resistance of symbolic meaning within the discourse field of the film and television spectacle adapted from literature. The third chapter analyzes the representation of the film and television spectacle adapted from literature from the micro point of view, and analyzes the typical characteristics of the phenomenon and the contradictions behind the typical cases.First of all, visually,The film and television spectacle adapted from literature transforms literary works expressed in words into audiovisual images, while emphasizing the shock of visual scenes, the rendering of the atmosphere of the images, and the filling of symbolic meanings of stars in the image expression.Secondly,In terms of literary narrative,The arrival of the visual age will inevitably shift the focus of literary expression to film and television, and the author’s original creative purpose will be changed,The literary significance of the spectacle adapted according to the characteristics of film and television will be robbed to a certain extent and the plots of literary works will be simplified. Finally,In terms of spatial significance,The film and television spectacle adapted from literature will shorten the distance between literature and the audience,at the same time, the expansion of the audience’s aesthetic space through various factors such as sight, sound and color, brings more possibilities for the audience’s aesthetic imagination. However, the film and television spectacle adapted from literature presents more entertainment activities for the audience, cutting down the serious and sublime meaning of literature. The second chapter,From the perspective of Kelner’s media culture theory,we can see the wonders of modern film and television spectacle adapted from literature. On the one hand, there are many differences between the development of domestic spectacle and the spectacle of Kellner’s time, and there are bound to be limitations in interpreting the current situation of domestic film and television spectacle adapted from literature through the lens of Kellner’s media culture theory. On the other hand, drawing on Kellner’s still useful theories and research ideas, reflecting on the social anxieties behind the spectacle, looking at it from multiple perspectives, and paying attention to media culture education are some of the research methods that can help to better grasp the overall picture of the film and television spectacle adapted from literature and promote the study of spectacle.
