The musical John&Jen was written by American composer Andrew Lippa and playwright Tom Greenwald in 1993.It is also the first musical work created by composer Andrew Lippa.The play mainly tells the story of Jen,a woman who was born in an ordinary Family in the United States in the 1950 s,and John,the two most important men(they have the same name John)in her life.the whole play takes "Jen" as the clue.The story has a long time span and the roles have a long age span too,so it is relatively a challenge for a musical actor.This requires the actors to explore Jen’s real emotional basis and the source of her impulse to the two men on the basis of a deep understanding of the script and music,and reproduce the vitality of the role from multiple angles,which is the process of the birth of the role.Therefore,the study of Jen’s characteristics is for the actors to get into the character’s inner would to understand the psychological growth process.This paper will study and analyze Jen’s different life experiences in her childhood,youth and middle age,through specific examples of music,body movements and dialogue,to complete the role shaping of Jen.
