| The report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Richard Shekari?s short story Aaricia and the Noland Army,which is a translation task from Fiberead website started in July 2021.The whole story consists of six chapters and includes 14146 words in total.The translator completes the first draft by herself.The book tells a story of the protagonist Aaricia,who defeated the evil forces and regained the throne.It makes use of both descriptive and narrative language,with long and short sentences.There is also a large number of dialogues,and the style is concise and simple.Based on the linguistic and stylistic features of the source text,the translator chooses Hans J.Vermeer?s Skopos Theory as the guidance for translation and case analyses.The report consists of five parts.The first chapter is task description,which mainly introduces the background of the task,the author,linguistic and stylistic features of the source text as well as the task requirements.The second chapter introduces the translation process,including preliminary preparation,in-translation as well as feedback and proofreading.The third chapter expounds the three rules of Skopos Theory,and its relevancy and applicability in the translation task.The fourth chapter is case analysis.From the perspective of the Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,it analyzes some translation examples in terms of vocabulary and sentence structure,and discusses the strategies and methods used in the translation,such as domestication,compensation for cultural default,literal translation,transliteration,omission and free translation.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizing the translator?s gains,experience and deficiencies in the translation practice,hoping to provide some useful experience for the translation of similar texts. |
