A Report On The E-C Translation Of Piano Mastery From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the development of globalization and the spread of culture,the music exchange between China and the west is becoming more and more frequent,which highlights the importance of music literature translation.Previous studies on music literature translation mainly start with Skopos theory,the communicative translation theory,and the context theory,etc.,which usually involve the content of terms,attributive clauses,translation strategies and so on.And there are limited music literature research based on functional equivalence theory.At present,the relevant studies mainly involves vocabulary and syntax level,with the stylistic and cultural aspects in obvious neglect.With case study under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the report selects English-Chinese version of Piano Mastery as the research material,and uses qualitative analysis method to analyze the target text based on the description of pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation from three levels: information equivalence,style equivalence and cultural equivalence.The information equivalence can be achieved by translation of phrases,vocabularies and sentences by combination,addition,word conversion,and division.In music literature,attention should be paid to ensure the accuracy of knowledge transmission for popular science style translation,and it is necessary to maintain the colloquialism and popular stylistic features of the original version.For the part of multilingual culture in music literature,the connotation of music culture should be specified,with annotation method to maximize the cultural equivalence as much as possible.
