| Appellation plays an essential role in daily life and interpersonal relationships.They could also be a source of misunderstanding,hurt each other’s feelings and prevent further communication.The appellation culture is also developing with the rapid development of society.New appellations reflect social popularities and values and have a different meaning from traditional terms.It is an integral part of the language and an essential means of understanding Chinese society.Therefore,it is one element that should receive attention in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Online communication has become increasingly sophisticated in the last decade or two,especially with the global epidemic of COVID-19,which has intensified its trend.In cyberspace,both parties to interpersonal interactions do not engage in face-to-face communication in fundamental social interactions.In this context,the perception and use of interesting and contemporary new appellations can facilitate interpersonal interactions and bring people closer together.Therefore,the significance of teaching the new appellatives in Chinese as a foreign language becomes more prominent.Many types of research are proposed on the Appellation in the Chinese language.However,there are few studies on the teaching of new appellations in Chinese as a foreign language.Therefore,this paper provides an overview of the new appellations in the Chinese language based on previous studies.Secondly,to understand Japanese learners’ perceptions and usage of the new appellations,we conducted a questionnaire survey and an interview survey.We analyze the influence of various attributes of Japanese learners on their perceptions and usage of the new appellations,their grasp of the classification of the new appellations,and their attitudes towards the perceptions and use of the new appellations.Based on the survey results,we found that: each of the factors of Japanese learners positively influenced their awareness of neologisms,Japanese learners’ native language backgrounds played a role in their understanding of neologisms,and Japanese learners generally maintained a positive attitude towards the awareness and use of neologisms.Finally,based on the survey results,we also propose corresponding pedagogical considerations and suggestions for Japanese learners’ learning of the new appellations. |
