Myth theme is a special content in Dunhuang grotto murals.Previous studies on the mythical images in Dunhuang frescoes tend to explore their connotations.It includes the implicit meaning of the mythological image itself and its existing meaning in the Buddhist grottoes.This paper attempts to discuss the visual language expression of the mythological images in Dunhuang frescoes from the perspective of the decorative nature of the mythological images.Most of the Chinese mythological images in Dunhuang frescoes appeared in the Western Wei Dynasty,the Northern Zhou Dynasty and the Sui Dynasty,and the frescoes in this period showed unique decorative characteristics in terms of expression form,artistic style and painting techniques.The use of decorative language makes the frescoes with mythological themes show a strong sense of beauty and reflects the artistic value of Dunhuang frescoes.Therefore,the unique artistic style of mythological images has the value of decorative research,and it is of practical significance to use the decorative language of mythological images in modern design.This paper takes the mythical images in Dunhuang frescoes as the research object,classifies the mythical images through the collection and arrangement of documents and images,analyzes the image characteristics of mythical images in different periods,and selects representative mythical images to study the application of their decorative language.This paper expounds the decorative characteristics of Dunhuang mythical images and summarizes their rules from four aspects: modeling characteristics,color characteristics,composition characteristics and the implication of mythical images.Through the decorative analysis of the mythological images,this paper explores the inspiration and application methods of their decorative characteristics to modern design,combines theory with design and creation,and takes the mythological images of Dunhuang as the theme for modern design and creation.On the one hand,it is to inherit the excellent Dunhuang culture and apply it to modern design;on the other hand,it is to practice the method of innovative design based on tradition,so as to create innovative design works with characteristics of The Times. |
