Research On Pictophonetic Character Of Bronze In The Early Western Zhou Dynasty

“The Collection of Inscriptions and Images on Bronze Inscriptions of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties” and its sequel are the most comprehensive collection of the data of the bronze inscriptions of the pictophonetic characters of bronze so far.The inscriptions on the bronze retain the original unearthed form and appearance,which is extremely valuable for the real presentation of the images and inscription rubbings,and has the value of screening and research.For the purpose of describing the pictophonetic characters in terms of synchronic research,this article uses “The Collection of Inscriptions and Images on Bronze Inscriptions of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties” and its sequel as the basic of research,based on Chinese Character Studies,the literacy of the glyph structure and the wording method as well as the degree of interpretation of the original meaning,to search the 4030 ancient bronze objects in the early western Zhou Dynasty,providing us with the inspection scope of research.We arrange the determined pictophonetic characters in a series of phonetic symbol clues.The tabulations include the six items of character rubbing,Li Ding word,phonetic symbol and semantic symbol,era,glyph source,and remarks.Based on the ancient sound of phonetic symbols,we arrange the pictophonetic characters of their phonetic symbols’ rhyme of thirty which was written by Wangli and the phonetic symbols that belong to the same rhyme are arranged by the initial consonant(of a Chinese syllable)of Twenty-eight(see the example in third chapter).In sorting out the basis of the pictophonetic characters of bronze table above,this paper focuses on the phonetic and semantic state of phonetic symbols in the way of analyzing and analyzing materials and summarizing mathematical statistics.This paper is divided into four chapters.The introduction includes the present situation research,including four categories:the study of ancient Chinese characters,the study of pictophonetic characters,the study of pictophonetic characters of bronze,and the theoretical views of pictophonetic characters.After that,the introduction part will illustrate the significances and methods of the research from the innovation of the material,the value of the research and the unique exposition of content.The first chapter reviews the source and development of pictophonetic characters and expounds the characteristics of pictophonetic characters from different angles.The chapter explains the features of the pictophonetic characters from the definitio,identification methods,the development of work and other aspects of picto-phonetic characters.T his part also stipulates the rules of this article.The second chapter first clarifies the pictophonetic character listing purpose,listing content and listing rules.The pictophonetic characters define the shape,sound and meaning of the specific "sound" column,including pictophonetic characters 501 words,double phonetic characters13 words.Based on the samples in Chapter Two,Chapter 3 studies the phonetic relationship between phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters and the meaningful relationship between phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters.In terms of the phonetic relation,the phonological status of phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters is divided into four categories: initial consonant and initial vowel all identity,initial vowel identity and initial consonant difference,initial consonant identity and initial vowel difference,initial consonant and initial vowel all difference.On the basis of statistics,this part analyzes the reasons for the phonetic differences between phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters.In the aspect of meaning relation,the relationship between phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters is divided into phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters which have the same meaning.The extended meaning of phonetic symbol is implied in pictophonetic characters.The phonetic symbol is not related to pictophonetic character because of its added shape symbol,change and substitution.The "source sememe" of the phonetic symbol is embodied in pictophonetic characters.Phonetic symbols are not related to pictophonetic character in meaning.Analyzing the reasons for the Phonetic symbols marks the picto-phonetic characters’ meaning on the basis of classification.Generally speaking,in the aspect of phonetics,it explores the phonetic relationship between phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters and concludes that the phonetic relationship between them in early characters of bronze kinks is very close on the whole.In the aspect of meaning,this paper explores the relationship between phonetic symbol and pictophonetic characters and draws the conclusion that phonetic symbols have meaning are not only a few but also a large number and a majority.At the same time,this paper gives some examples to illustrate the double phonetic symbol character,the phonetic symbol omission,the phonetic symbol overlap,the phonetic symbol distortion,the phonetic symbol mixing,the same character with different shape and the same shape of the different character.Finally,the materials used by the author are made into the general table: “pictophonetic characters of Bronze in the early western Zhou Dynasty”,“phonetic relations”,“meaning relations”,“the phonetic symbol omission”,“the same character of the different shape”,“the same shape of the different character”.
