One of the most important features of contemporary painting is the need for surprise.The outer frame of oil painting has always existed in traditional western paintings to serve as a foil to the picture,highlight the center of the picture and protect the painting.In the background of contemporary new art history,the frame of painting works has been studied with more new possibilities.In Hodgkin’s eyes,the appearance of painting frames in his works is no longer a fixed and unchanging frame in traditional sense,but a comprehensive presentation that contains multiple ways of reproducing frames and the coexistence of multiple ideas.Frame in a certain sense also as constraints,and in the contemporary British painter Howard Hodgkin’s paintings not only didn’t box constraints,and the frame to become his painting language and art,he will paint directly to the songs,the seemingly random accidental huo results,but hidden dimensions and thinking to think.Howard Hodgkin’s works have strong tension and unique abstract language.He USES his memory and emotion as the inspiration source of painting.He regards the frame as an inseparable part of the work and dissociates in and out of the painting to form the characteristics and artistic interest of painting language.This paper studies the inside and outside of Howard Hodgkin’s paintings and explores the uniqueness of Howard Hodgkin’s works.
