Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin is the third female natural scientist to win the Nobel Prize in chemistry after Madame Curie and her daughter. Her X-ray crystallography has solved the structure of complex biological macromolecules in an intuitive way, which is a milestone of modern protein crystal stereo structure. As a female scientist, she has made an important contribution to promoting women's equality in science and world peace.Based on gender ideology, the study of Dorothy's background, her experience and achievements can not only help us to understand Dorothy's contribution to X-ray crystallography, but also understand Dorothy's difficulties and challenges as a female scientist in the 20 th century. The first chapter mainly studies Dorothy's social background and family background. This chapter introduces the status and development of women in British society and Oxford University in the 19 th and 20 th century,as well as Dorothy's family environment and education in childhood, and explore the root causes of difficulty in society according to Dorothy is a woman. The second chapter mainly studies Dorothy's experience and achievements. This chapter introduces Dorothy's learning and professional experience in Oxford and Cambridge, and makes a detailed review of her achievements(discovery of the stereoscopic structure of cholesterol iodide, penicillin, vitamin B12 and insulin). In addition,it also includes Dorothy's family life and social activities, which paves the way for further interpretation of her gender ideology. The third chapter mainly analyzes Dorothy's gender ideology, and explains that Dorothy's gender ideology is advanced compared with its times. In the framework of gender social environment, this paper analyzes four factors that affect her gender ideology. Finally, taking Dorothy's laboratory as an example,it analyzes the intuitive performance of her gender ideology.Dorothy's life(1910-1994)covered most of the 20 th century. Her career spanned from 1934 to 1988.Due to the conservative gender consciousness in the historical context at that time,Dorothy,as a highly educated intellectual woman, encountered various unfair phenomena in the process of scientific knowledge production. However, these unfair treatments did not hinder her success in scientific career, nor let her give up her family life.Through the study of Dorothy's character and her unique gender ideology,we can better understand how intellectual women helped themselves out of this dilemma, and provide reference for the future development of intellectual women.
