Totem Of The Spirits-A Report On The Creation Of Claborate-style Painting Series Of "Altar"

It seems that human beings have kept asking the question of existence,which is one of the most common and unavoidable topics.They often ask themselves: Where do I come from? What is the world like? Such curiosity urges people to explore our living space and spiritual world.The constant changes and development of times bring different problems and puzzles to people.In order to look for the peace and relief of their inner hearts,people adopt different ways to meet their demands for life.In our modern society which develops rapidly,science and technology,which bring convenience and efficiency to our life,trigger people’s rethinking the significance of their existence.This is also the ideological source of my creation this time.I often feel doubtful and confused about my being and wonder what the essence of our life? Why do“human beings” exist in our world? In order to solve these problems,I create a series of works called Altars to understand the nature of life.This series of works display different images of faces.Different abstracted faces,which are used to symbolize our abstract spirit,serve as our spiritual belief totem symbols for exploring the nature of our life.Totems,which reflect thoughts of the most primitive human beings about their own beings,serve not only the original sustenance of their spiritual beliefs but also a symbol of primitive human spirits.Through further researching totems,this paper finds that the ideological basis of totems is “the view of soul.Bodies are separated from spirits and materials are used to symbolize the abstract spirits.This paper researches symbolism on the basis of that and combs the expression and application of symbolism,as a kind of art creation modes,in culture and arts.This paper also uses the symbolic technique to carry out artistic practice and expression according to the author’s feelings for the present society.
