Study of gender language originated in western countries.Evolving with the feminist movement, many domestic and international scholars have discussed from multiple disciplines. This paper will discuss the thesis from a sociolinguistic perspective.Italian,as a language divided into feminine and masculine, embodies asymmetrical characteristics in gender language.According to the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis,Language and thinking interact with each other Analysis of asymmetrical representations in language can reveal the attitudes of Italian society and the population towards gender equality, and the process of linguistic change in the Italian language in terms of gender language can be seen in the analysis of the content of linguistic phenomena and solutions. This phenomenon of asymmetrical language is not accidental, but is the inevitable result of a male-dominated social process.Analyzing the linguistic phenomenon is better for foreign language learners to understand the social psychology of Italian people. To study gender stereotypes in language is to analyze the thinking patterns that people formed under some language habit, and understanding the thinking patterns of language users is the only method that we can truly dismantle gender discrimination in language and achieve equalization of language and society.Based on the markedness theory and asymmetry analysis method, this thesis analyzes the asymmetry phenomena in Italian semantics, grammar. The causes of this phenomenon in the Italian language are briefly analyzed from the perspectives of physiological differences, religious culture, social division of labor and educational resources.Since the emergence of this theory, the measures put forward by Italian linguists have not been widely adopted. The author found that in addition to the low feasibility of the measures themselves, language users do not pay attention to gender discrimination in language as one of the reasons, and women’s recognition of masculine titles is also an obstacle to gender inequality in language.People are not powerless to change language, they can fully intervene in the backward language phenomenon with their subjective initiative.
