| In October 2016,the first newly-reformed English College Entrance was held in Zhejiang,which symbolized the continuation writing was included in the CEE for the first time.Recently,researches on the continuation writing have sprung up,and its great effect on promoting study has been progressively recognized by teachers.However,no matter with relatively low or high grades,most students are faced with writing difficulties,which may cause writing anxiety,and in turn hinder their writing interest and improvement in writing ability.Teachers have lots of confusion about teaching as well.Concerning the matters above,this research is carried out with the aim of figuring out the specific writing difficulties confronting students of different language ability levels,as well as problems during teaching,and trying to work out related effective teaching strategies.The current learning and teaching situation of continuation writing is studied by giving out questionnaires;teaching difficulties and strategies are accumulated through interviews with teachers.Class observing method is applied to recording and reflecting on five continuation writing classes,whose topics considering plot developing,detail describing and writing micro-skill practicing.Ultimately,effective teaching and learning strategies will be summarized.As is illustrated in the research,students with relatively high language ability will have less writing difficulties than those with low language ability.To those who score relatively low in writing,the main writing difficulties lie in reading passage comprehension,plot development and lack of expressions for better description.To those who score relatively high in writing,abundance of expressions and sentence structures is the key to good writing.To help develop plots,students can focus on the given underlined words in the passage,inner logic of the story and the story themes.To improve describing skills,teachers can guide students to collect good descriptive expressions from reading passages.Some micro-skills for writing are also advised to be added in daily teaching.This research can help teachers grasp the real situation of students’ writing,provide teachers with workable teaching strategies when confronting related problems,help them better master teaching,and promote students’ writing ability to a higher level. |
