| The relationship between two countries is based on the close contact between the people.China and South Korea are among the most important neighbors and economic partners,but there are significant differences in social systems and ideologies between these two countries.How the Korean public view and understand China will have a profound impact on the development of Sino-Korean relations.However,the existing research is usually based on the analysis of news media reports or literary works.In fact,to investigate a society’s cognition of other countries,the most important analysis object should be primary and secondary school textbooks,because primary and secondary school textbooks can be said to be the most important path for a country to shape social ideology.So far,however,it has not attracted sufficient attention to examine the nationalimage of China in the minds of Koreans from the perspective of discourse analysis in textbooks of Korean primary and secondary schools.In view of this,this paper takes the current Korean textbooks for primary and secondary schools as research samples;takes texts and pictures related to China as Chinese;and labels,extracts,and builds a corpus;then,through the statistical method of target word frequency,this paper investigates the frequency of country names of countries adjacent to South Korea(China,Japan,Russia,North Korea)and major countries(the United States,Britain,Germany,France,etc.)in Korean language textbooks,so as to reveal the attention of Korean language textbooks to China;based on the co-occurrence analysis of target words,this paper selects the coordinate phrases and descriptive phrases(endocentric phrases and subject-predicate phrases)related to China to analyze the image of China constructed in Korean language textbooks;based on text theme analysis,this paper analyzes the content framework of Korean language textbooks on Chinese topics.The main findings of this study are the following three aspects:First,China is the most mentioned country in Korean language textbooks,which means that Korea and China have been interacting in politics and culture since ancient times,and Korea has been influenced by China for a long time.Second,among the coordinate phrases composed of country names in Korean textbooks,the most common is the juxtaposition of China and Japan,followed by the juxtaposition of China,Japan and South Korea.There is no coordinate phrase composed of China and other countries considered by South Koreans and even the international community to have a bad image.At the same time,the rhetoric part of the descriptive phrases with China as the central language also tends to affirm the image.Third,looking at the content framework of the current language textbooks in South Korea,the Chinese topics shown in them are not particularly biased.Although there are some differences in the emphasis of the image produced in each education stage,overall,in the Korean language textbooks of primary and secondary schools,the most prominent feature of the Chinese image is neutral."Textbooks are not only the transmitter of ideology,but also the shaper of ideology".Starting from the fundamental goal of "enhancing international understanding and building a community with a shared future for mankind ",this paper aims to investigate and analyze the world concept system and Chinese image constructed and presented in the latest Korean primary and secondary school "Korean" textbook through linguistic analysis and prevention.The image of China explores and reveals the shaping effect of Korean language textbooks on Korean primary and secondary school students’ perceptions of China’s image,with a view to providing some enlightenment for promoting the effective dissemination of China’s image and promoting the development of Sino-Korea relations in the new era. |
