Dostoyevsky and Osamu Daizai were famous Russian and Japanese writers in the19 th century and 20 th century respectively.Disease narration is a significant feature of their novel creation. In their literary works, they not only contain physical diseases, but also involve the types of mental diseases and psychological diseases, including dual personality, lung disease, fever, epilepsy, alcoholism and gambling, and so on.At the same time, the two writers are good at using flexible and diverse narrative perspectives to observe and think about the same disease from different aspects. They use metaphors, symbols and other artistic techniques to create a series of profound and widely resonating pathological characters, and show readers the confusion and negative effects brought by the disease to patients from multiple dimensions. In fact, with the development of modern civilization, the alienation phenomenon between man and society, and between man and self gradually appeared in Russia and Japan, which studied the western modern system. When scientific rationality and nihilism thought simultaneously became the indicator of social civilization, the chaos of social collective thought would inevitably occur. The prophetic pathologies they describe have gradually become a common feature of modern people. Therefore, this paper studies the common and opposite characteristics of Dostoyevsky and Osamu Daizai in disease narration by sorting out and comparing their morbid characters, disease narration characteristics, contemporary problems faced by Dostoyevsky and Osamu Daizai in their creation and their thoughts on disease narration. It points out how the two writers find the spiritual core of existentialism from the nihilism background and realize the purpose of literary redemption through the way of disease narration in the process of literary creation, providing a universal solution for modern people who fall into spiritual dilemma.
