As a voluminous and profound Chinese classic,Zuo Zhuan really has world influence.Since its spread to Japan,it has had an important impact on Japanese historiography and soon became one of the important classics studied by Japanese scholars.To the Edo Period,it formed the research peak of Zuo Zhuan.Zuo Zhuan Fengyuan is a comprehensive work on commentary and refutation of Zuo Zhuan and its annotation,which was written by the representative scholar Riken Nakai(中井履轩)of KAITOKUDO(怀德堂)in this issue.It is regarded as "the embodiment of the research results of Zuo Zhuan in Japan since the 18th century".This book is the painstaking work of Zuo Zhuan and plays an important role in Japan and even in the academic history of East Asia.Based on Du Yu’s Chun Qiu Jjing Zhuan Ji Jie,Zuo Zhuan Fengyuan makes detailed annotations,textual research and comments on the Scriptures,biographies,Du Yu’s notes and other versions of Zuo Zhuan.First of all,the text is composed of three parts:introduction,text and citation;Secondly,on the basis of widely absorbing the Chinese style,a unique "Diao Ti"style has been formed,which includes the textual research and interpretation of famous objects,refuting fallacies,right and wrong;Finally,the use of a variety of literary methods for commentary,including exegesis,comment on the image and reveal the truth.Under the "Diao Ti" style,we can see its commentary characteristics:the commentary also focuses on the classics and doubts the annotation of the classics;Rigorous research and repeated new ideas;The letter is transmitted by letter,and doubt is ignored;Clear and to the point.This book shows Riken Nakai profound academic skills,embodies his spirit of intensive study,and presents Riken Nakai personal ideal of trying to explore the way of governing the world.The logic of learning and thinking in Zuo Zhuan Fengyuan is mainly embodied in three aspects:theoretical imagination,interpretation principle and ideological source.Firstly,Riken Nakai put forward the theoretical imagination of "the example of the spring and Autumn period and the law of the Duke of Zhou",clarified the relationship between the old spring and Autumn P eriod and Confucius’ spring and Autumn Period,summarized the two chronicle characteristics of"the unity of writing and grammar,the distinct recording of events,and the combination of praise and criticism",and pointed out the negligence of"imitating scriptures"and "imitating biographies",which is the foothold of Zuo Zhuan to clarify the purpose of scriptures and invent the meaning of literature.Secondly,it points out that the principle of"seeking truth from facts" is the interpretation of "seeking truth from facts";Secondly,it is creative to use the new knowledge of the calendar to deduce the event and demonstrate its authenticity.Finally,Riken Nakai’s argument thought has obvious characteristics of the times:not talking about witches and ghosts,and puts forward a dialectical view of the role of"sacrifice".The above all reflect the bold and beneficial exploration made by Riken Nakai in the governance of Zuo Zhuan.Zuo Zhuan Fengyuan and Zuo Zhuan Buzhu by Hui Dong,a scholar in the Qing Dynasty,are both proofs of Zuo Zhuan,and Zuozhuan Fengyuan is deeply influenced by Qian Jia Sinology.They are comparable in content and method.The similarities between the two books are mainly reflected in the research content and academic purpose:first,the research content of the two books focuses on the refutation of the annotation based on DuYu’s notes,especially on the"error of ceremony" in DuYu’s notes;Secondly,the two books take "bringing order out of chaos" as their academic purpose,and seek holy words through various ways.The two books are different.First,in terms of interpretation intention,Riken Nakai wants to explore the way of governing the world from his scholarship;Hui Dong adheres to family studies and hopes to revive Sinology.Second,in terms of interpretation method,"Zuo Zhuan meets the original" introduces others to describe themselves,focusing on inventing their own opinions;Zuo Zhuan supplementary notes takes the narration of ancient times as the main point,and has fresh opinions.Third,in the citation research,Riken Nakai is trustworthy;Hui Dong is only from Han.From the perspective of its spread and influence on later generations,its achievements are far less than the Zuo Zhuan Buzhu,but its achievements in thought and academic research methods also opened up a new way for the development of Zuo Zhuan in the research of Zuo Zhuan.Compared with the research works of Zuo Zhuan in Japan at the same time,the research mode of Zuo Zhuan Fengyuan is unique and has a strong personal color.The originality of Zuo Zhuan Fengyuan is embodied in four aspects:first,in the way of academic research,it does not completely rely on ancient annotations,independent innovation and many opinions;second,In terms of content,it creatively refutes Du’s mistakes and doubts the classics;Third,In terms of style,he created the research mode of "carving title" and "meeting the original";fourth,Ideologically,he does not speak of witches and ghosts,but advocates sacrificial rites of "doing my respect".Its creative discussion provides a reference for the research of later Japanese scholars.In addition,his academic methods and thoughts are also of great value in the history of Zuo Zhuan in East Asia.First of all,Riken Nakai’s ideological system,which includes the academic view of seeking truth and truth,the Confucian ideal of being practical to the world and the world view of not talking about witches and ghosts,has opened up a new way for how to conduct academic research based on the rational judgment of the transformation of academic ideas in the new era on the basis of respecting the values of traditional Confucianism;Secondly,its trustworthiness,bold questioning and "carving title"model have methodological enlightenment value for the study of Zuo Zhuan in East Asia.
