| The report is based on the interpretation and translation of Seven Perfect Things,a novel written by an American writer named Catherine Ryan Hyde in May,2021.This foreign literary novel tells a story of salvation and love.It manages to enhance the images of main characters by language diversity and detailed plots descriptions. In the practice of translating English into Chinese, the translator should understand the cultures behind two types of languages and learn to render meanings between two different languages.Dynamic equivalence theory, originally proposed by the famous American linguist Eugene Nida, provides a great insight into translation. It holds that a good translation not only seeks for rigid equivalence on the surface of the text, but rather achieves an equivalence of functions between the two languages.Under the guidance of this theory, translators should use the most natural and appropriate expression to create a translation that not only represents the semantic meaning but also reflects the cultural and stylistic characteristics of the original text. The theory of dynamic equivalence facilitates the translator to make a more fluent and vivid interpretation and translation. This report includes descriptions of tasks and translation process, case analysis, conclusion and self-reflection.The translator analyzes the guiding role of dynamic equivalence theory in the practice of novel translation from three levels of lexis, syntax and discourse. At the level of lexis, techniques like extension,four-character structures, repetition, amplification and omission have been used to achieve the lexis equivalence. At the level of syntax, reorder, combination, paraphrase and voice conversion have been adopted to accomplish the syntax equivalence. And at the level of discourse, hyponomy, conjunction and reference have been employed to realize the discourse equivalence. The report clearly indicates that the dynamic equivalence theory plays a very important role in guiding novel translation practice.Under the guidance of the dynamic equivalence theory the translation would transcend the formal equivalence and achieve the dynamic equivalence of meaning, style and reader’s response from different levels and dimensions, making the target text fluent and bringing a better reading experience to the target readers. |
